Chang if you knew what autism was you'd realize you're handicapped in certain areas and in others you're really good. Like this dude i went to high school with and now go to the same university. He use to spaz out and go crazy in class but hes really good at math.

Check out Daniel Tammet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Tammet

He's technically autistic, and yet the side affects of being autistic are hardly noticeable. He specializes in mathematics and language. Answers just come to him in his own special way. It reminds me of that idea that humans only use 14% of their brain, well, this guy practically broke that theory. He just consumes and retains information.
I really recommend watching all the parts of this documentary. It opens up the notion that we to can possibly have these rare abilities. Remember, he's the only savant that can do this. It's really amazing....

Haven't any of you seen Rain Man? Autistic savants, like the dude said above, are what you're talking about.

No disrespect to anyone posting because this is a good topic, but you can't really categorize and label someone with autism so easily...

There is a HUGE spectrum that autism falls under and many times people are diagnosed with Aspergers as well. The first guy is definitely talented. He may have suffered from autism as a child and has been assisted in some sort of recovery or he's an adult dealing with Aspergers, or something else under the huge spectrum.

Daniel Tammet actually is not autistic per se. He has Aspergers syndrome. Falls into the same spectrum as various forms of autism, but he has high functioning linguistic and cognotive skills. It doesn't really show much in the videoes, but at one point I would also guess that he had a hard time socializing as that's one of the main signs of Aspergers.

I used to work with kids who had been diagnosed with autism and my g/f is still working in that field. There are some kids that just cling to things and they get REALLY good at it. One of the kids she is working with is CRAZY about Transformers. He's able to take a toy, write down a list of transformation steps, and then draws them out.

Sorry kinda ranted there.

I see where you are coming from, I just wanted to show Daniel Tammet, because his case is so amazingly rare. I mean the "real" rain man Kim Peek can't visualize for you how he's able to recall all of the information that he takes in, am I right? (in the same sense that Daniel Tammet can)

But yes, thank you for clarifying Tammet's condition, just using him as an example of some rare/amazing sh*t. And no, you weren't really ranting lol, only educated discourse. cheers cool

Autism's very fascinating, I'd suggest reading up on synaesthesia, which Daniel Tammet has, as it's very interesting

I know it says he's a normal guy on his site, but I heard that he has Williams syndrome. Look it up , quite an interesting and relevant disorder in this case.

my cousins autistic and i wouldnt say he has any special talents. but from what ive read and heard about is that people with autism, especially kids, tend to become severley intrested or wrapped around 1 thing. my cousin for instance plays nintendo games and is obsessed with mario and shit. this guy, if he is autistic, is probably the same way about music
