A=shirt B=pants C=more expensive shirt D=more expensive pants

and with your definition A+B=C+D

then assuming a=1 and b=1 and c=2 and d=2

1+1=2 or a+b

and

2+2=4 or c+d

2 does not equal 4, infact 2<4

Making it both asisine to buy something more expensive and the fact that it defeats the laws of arithmetic
