280$ to pay for a semester of classes at SMC.
what a great program honestly.

stay bumming paying off your loans boys, we are all getting the same education!

i don't really know about SMC's reputation, but I can tell you for sure that a better college does mean a better education. a competitive college's courses with the same name as a less competitive college will usually be 100x harder, providing a much better education. i know this after talking with my friends who go to different colleges.

although you can definitely get a good education at less prestigious schools, you are much more likely to get a better education for a given major at a better school and have a leg up when you start your career

The parties are ill, and theres never a dull moment on the weekends. I also heard that playboy gave them an award for hottest chicks, and its true, the bitches down there are bomb. link is here

now my questions are: do i have to pay back FAFSA? i dropped 17 days into the semester and i never received the fafsa money. but i just checked my financial aid history and they said i got/was going to get $1800

also, im trying to go to a CC this year but im wondering if i have a chance of getting money even with the fact that i dropped out last year?

this shit is stressing me the fuck out.

If you didn't receive any of the funds, then you do not have an obligation to pay back the financial aid you were supposed to receive. Besides, this only applies if the money you were going to get was a loan. I'm guessing the money you were awarded was in the form of a grant or scholarship (neither of which have to be repaid).

Just some clarification for you, FAFSA is not an organization that gives you money. It is an application that the school uses to determine if you are eligible for any financial aid. Financial aid can come in the form of grants, scholarships, work study opportunities, or federal loans. Out of all these, only loans have to be repaid (but there are still ways to get out of repaying a federal loan).

Yes, you can still receive financial aid for community college as long as you are not enrolled at another college or university at the same time. Since you say you dropped out of the other college, then there shouldn't be a problem with you getting financial aid for community college.

telling you man, in no way could it not be an upgrade from the AV. it'd just be nice to get out of here, but be close to the family, and also closer to LA

how hard's getting classes there though?

i actually think SMC is one of the best CCs but you cant compare a good CC to a good university. it doesnt matter if the classes at SMC are better; having say an ivy league school on your resume is the only thing that matters. i guess if you want to be an electrician or janitor or data entry person or something the school doesnt matter but it sounds like you don't know of the opportunities out there to people at great schools (ex: finance/law/med/etc)

registration for CoC has been happening for about the last week.
A lot of my friends only have one registered class for the upcoming semester.
Its BEYOND difficult to get into all, or even the majority, of the classes you want. When do you plan to go to CoC?
This fall semester?? Today is the day that the 11th and 12th graders can sign up for classes @ CoC as well, so the competition is ridiculous. Personally, I'm really glad that I didn't have to end up going to CoC.

PM me if you have any other inquiries

Went to SU for a year (last year, so 09-10) but transferred out at the end of the year. Its a school in transition and I'd take a long look at it if you're thinking of going there. I had troubles with the rain and all but I was from out-of-state and I see you are not. Other than weather it has overcapacity issues, they keep raising class sizes and don't have the money to expand, I think housing this year is like 112% and a bunch of my friends got kicked out of their rooms or forced into "economy" triples at a strikingly under-discounted rate. The area is dope though and some awesome cultural stuff (music, movies, ect). I left because I felt they were modeling growth after Gonzaga (sports being improved at the expense of academics-lowered acceptance standards to get better athletes) rather than try and develop the strong academic reputation they had built up to. Overall it was a good school though, just some things to consider.

word. one of the reasons i am interested in SU is because it's a little easier to get accepted into, has smaller classroom sizes, and has better quality dorms, all in comparison to UW. and im going to try to apply financial aid...and private schools usually give out more money.

and yeah, I might apply to Gonzaga as a safety/safety

Nice list, but if you're going to apply as high as MIT, you should really add some colleges to your list (caltech, ivies, stanford). Cause i know MIT is pretty damn hard to get into (harder than columbia or penn)

Word, thanks for the advice. I'm interested in studying astronomy/physics/astrophysics and MIT is one of the top dogs for that. Also looking into caltech.
