some people have those devices where the scammer puts it in a machine that accepts cards usually gas stations pumps and once you swipe it, it records the data.

"The SSN is frequently used by those involved in identity theft, since it is interconnected with so many other forms of identification, and because people asking for it treat it as an authenticator. The SSN is generally required by financial institutions to set up bank accounts, credit cards, and obtain loans, partially because it is assumed that no one except the person to whom it was issued will know it.
The Social Security Administration has suggested that, if asked to provide his or her Social Security number, a citizen should ask which law requires its use."

this is fake right?
how many times has your identity been stolen since posting the #?

do you pay for things online?

ie: karmaloop, ecapcity, your utility bill?

hackers can do wonders if you use your card to buy online.. or if you even check your account online through your bank.

happened to me, total: $48.95 for some bogus company that masked itself as a design/graphic company. no clue how they got my card number, but i googled and investigated and they got something like $10 million over the past year by hacking credit card numbers.

LOL @ people putting SS numbers up. hopefully those aren't real.

wow. you fail. both online banking and paper statements indicate whether a transaction is check card, credit card, check, atm, teller, wire transfer, etc.

also, running a debit CARD like a credit CARD involves a CARD, which i said i still had in my possession in the first post. stores are not supposed to allow you to make purchases without the actual card (by providing the card #, etc.) because of the ridiculous amount of fraud which occurs every day.

yeah, i pay for pretty much everything online. i use online banking as well. i wasn't aware that hackers could actually retrieve that information through legitimate sites. that sucks.

i'm going to have to be careful with that and look into it a little bit more. you'd think with so many companies encouraging people to switch to online bill statements and payments that they would do a better job with keeping information secure.
