Almost hitting rock bottom my freshman year in college and meeting Edrick. Holy crap I totally screwed up my freshman year. I would have to say it was a combination of the company that I kept and my ignorance. I did well in high school without even trying, so I figured college would be the same. Boy, was I wrong. I also realized that the company that I kept really held me back. I didn’t surround myself with positive influences or people with ambition and aspirations. I just went through the motions and didn’t really have a plan and wasn’t thinking about my future. I quickly learned the hard way. I realized I screwed up and made it a point to get myself back on track. I also changed my lifestyle and those I surrounded myself with. I’m not going to lie, meeting Edrick was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. He is definitely one of a kind and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without him. He’s my motivation, my drive, my strength. He pushed me and made me realize that I have so much more potential than I gave myself credit for. I didn’t want to believe it because I was afraid to fail. I finally manned up and was like FUCK IT, I’m going to fucking win. I let go of my fears and I gunned it. I got my academics right (currently holding a 3.4) and I got my mind right. I am driven, happy, and better than ever. I will only get better. I want to succeed and I refuse to be mediocre. Quite frankly, I don’t believe I’m in any way mediocre. You are in control of your life. You either work hard, roll with the punches and make the best of it, or you give up and be a loser. Sometimes life is discouraging and you don’t always get what you want, but continue to look at the bigger picture and continue to push yourself. Have goals and aspirations. Make something of yourself. Fuck the excuses and just DO IT!

This is a lesson that Edrick has taught me: You only have one life. Do what makes you happy. Live your dream. Nothing is impossible.

Live by it.
