i saw this in a sale thread, and it made me think... what is dressing like an adult? at what age does this happen? or, more generally, what is an adult, and is it possible to include passions from your childhood in your adult life?

for me personally, i dress in the things i like. jeans and tees and sneakers for the most part. i skateboard every day. i dont own a house or a car, and dont see myself owning either in the forseeable future. i like to drink and chase women and get high. i do things that many would consider childish i guess. at the same time, i have a career making good money, i have children, and i support them and myself. i have a good sense of myself and my place in the world. im respected in the field that i work in, and could get a job anywhere in the world.

so... can you be an adult and never wear a suit and tie? can you be an adult in streetwear? who makes the rules?

well I think generally you dress a lot more adult than a lot of people on here, so you're really good money. It's not like you're sagging to your knees and wearing 3 bears dunks and shit like that.

oh, i know im good... this thread wasnt about me... i just wanted to see how people on here thought about the idea of being an adult, and what it means to them... i respect to dressing, the things they do, and the things that they want. i found it ridiculous that someone would sell all of their sneakers because they had "become an adult"

personally I think that I'm probably going to dress like I do now forever, I'll just adjust it according to my taste in general developing not because I made a certain age and now I can't just because.

Unfortunately there are sets of "rules" or "outlooks" in the general society. If you were to line people up in front of a wall, one wearing streetwear, one with his pants to his knees, one in a J Crew sweater, and one in a suit and tie; the general consensus would pick the man in the suit and tie more dominantly than even the one in a sweater. I think there is a reason that brands like alife have their ARC subsidiary because they want to appeal to a separate audience.

We could go on and on and on about what is considered "street wear" because that's an entirely different topic by itself. Now, if you take someone who's wearing a more fitted pant, a crewneck sweater from stussy, and a simple pair of shoes, they are going to appear more adult-like. I think the question of dressing adult isn't what you wear, but more so how you wear it. How you put together your clothing and how you appear at the first glance is ultimately what makes you look "adult-like."

I think it depends on the Situation your in. I mean if your lucky to have a job were you dont have to meet a certain dress code then that's great but I also feel like there are times in peoples lives were they do have to kinda change there appereance and give the employer or whatever it may be that certain "safisticated Grown man look". When Im at work I am a completly def. person from my style of clothes to the way i speak. Sometimes you gotta fake it to make it.

Thats how I feel. Unfortunately, it all depends on how you want to be received by the general public that you deal with, as mentioned earlier. I work at a Correctional Facility and I CANNOT wear what I would outside because of the associations that can be made or percieved. So I have to "fake it to make it".

But selling off your clothes and shoes to "dress like an adult" is retarded.... should've just stated that he/she is just changing up styles?!?

unfortunately, society is a giant two-faced bitch that preaches individuality/equality/etc but doesn't listen to itself.

If you can get away with it, that's fine, but its not the same for everyone. Employers discriminate in almost every business. Take doctors as an example; most of them don't have visible tattoos or unkept hair and always dress in button up shirts and a pair of dress shoes.

Ideally, we think that it would be cool to dress how you want. But Realistically, would you really trust your child or yourself to a dude that has full sleeves, dirty as fuck hair, and a supreme tee?

naw, you wouldn't. thats why i think you should dress however you want until you have to become a shithead during worklife and then when you're on your own time you can do what you want.

it's def. not a good look when you see a middle aged man wearing some bright ass tee with an allover print, or flashy graphic logo on it, that matches with the newest colorful sneakers.
