My iPhone has never crashed on me. Mine's jailbroken and unlocked, maybe I'm just lucky.

Hook your phone up, back it up via iTunes. Run blackrain. Finished.

You can't brick your phone if you try and jailbreak. It's pretty much impossible, unless you purposely try to brick it. And even then, you just call Apple and make some shit up.

Worst case scenario is that you just can't do it.

Can't jailbreak 3.1.3 afaik, so if you're on that, you'll have to wait.
