I don't know if there's a thread like this yet and if so mods delete..

I've been doing film editing for about 3 years now and suddenly I just don't wanna be doing this anymore and thinking about taking another career path. I have no clue as to what I wanna do but I'm positive I don't wanna go back to college. I was thinking about going to a vocational school or something. Maybe something in the medical field like pharm tech, mri tech, and nursing. But some of those careers don't make as much as i do now.

What are some career paths you guys taking?

It's hard to say since you don't even know what you want to do. Like you said, pharm techs don't make that much money. Obviously, Pharmacy and Med School will get you a lot of money, but it's not like anyone can just get in. Pharmacy was my plan, but the average GPA going in is like 3.5. I'll still try it, but my chances are slim.

Anyways, I'd suggest vocational school. Screw the stereotype. Nursing isn't a bad career path if you're really interested.

If you're decent looking with good people skills, you can try being a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep. They make a ton of money. I don't think you need anything more than a Bio degree. I could be wrong though.

Yea man nursing doesn't sound too bad. The pay especially.. As far as the pharmaceutical sales rep goes... I'm not too good with sales... haha. I don't like trying to sell things. But i appreciate your input.. Good luck with the pharmacy school.

I was looking into radiology, xray tech, mri etc... and it looks like that field is over saturated. Too many workers and not enough positions from what i've been reading.. Pay is good though starting at 60k and a 3 year program dont sound to bad. Are you pursuing this yourself?

if your looking for something more creative you should become a film editor yourself! I have no more creative motivation to keep me going with editing anymore!!..ha

When going into the medical field, just know that specialized fields aren't worth it. The reason being is because you have to go to school longer than you would if going for a common field, and since it takes such a long time to finish school (by the time you get out of school, you'd be in your 30s) and even then, you still have to find a place where you can practice. You'd be so far into debt and it takes years just to pay it back, even though you have a high salary.

It was something I read in "The Week" magazine or "US News" (forgot which one).

sean.
you seem like your a pretty smart/ strong guy. so how about the fire department?
you could start out as an emt, until you get picked. LA city is going to be hireing about 6000 people in the next 5 years. and even if you dont want to be a firefighter, fighting fire, the fire department has a number of jobs that im sure you would be good at.

im just saying though. thats what im planning on doing.

wow, im actually quite suprised that there are this many people in this thread doing pharmacy. I actually just took my pcats, hope i do well enough to get back into school, cuz doing research is cool but gets effn boring.

Hey Iron dont give up on pharm if ur GPAs low, a friend of mine got into school and he had a ~2.9 gpa, but he did real well on the pcat, 91st percentile. nevertheless its still possible with a lower gpa.

Sean, nursing pays well, you can a work a shit ton of hours and get paid bank (i have 4 cousins who are RNs and they buy whatever they want with absolutely no worries) Honestly tho I couldnt do it, i think id be even more miserable and film editing sounds like a pretty chill job. but if its the dumps for you just switch it up, no point in doing something u absolutely hate

hopefully your gonna be doing a doctorate in something regarding the biological field, if not ur prolly gonna be doing the same stuff ive been doing for the past year. so unless you want to do someone elses research for the rest of your working days, get a doctorate

Shit was random as fuck man... If I added it all up in those 7 years that I did spam off and on... I'd say roughly $200k-$210k

Not bad for doing shit all those years, and just leaving my computer(s) on.

your research on pharmacology is flawed. a pharmacist can make as much as they desire.

a certified technician can make upwards to 30$/hour (stats going off of toronto and surrounding area wages)

so look into it again

Wow. I was thinkin' bout being an X-Ray tech... I hear the money is good... But I dunno how I would REALLY like that though.

I'm really looking at graphic design field. I've always been interested in that... but if I don't have any experience, is it really worth it?

Lately, I've just been stuck... And I damn sure I don't wanna work at this damn Mens Wearhouse job for the rest of my life.
