I have a question hopefully somebody can help. So whats the difference between a tattoo artist who is 50/per hour and one that is 200/per hour if you bring in your own art that you want done? Can there really be that much difference in tattooing ability?

Ummm, u serious? Here is the deal, u go to a someone who charges $50 an hour and ill go to someone who charges $200, we get the same type of tattoo and we'll see which ones comes out better... If u are down, im down? hahah No but really tattooing is an art and takes real time and dedication to become good! Some people go under an amazing artist for an apprenticeship and just draws and does bitch work til they do there time! Some people just think lets get right into tattooing without any guides and they are the usually the ones who charge $50 an hour...

To be honest, i person who charges $200 an hour has the reputation behind them and their work will amaze people! Reason they charge this price and its worth it! Also usually artist will just charge u this for your first time there then they usually cut down the price next time! Most artists anyway!

Besides it being my favorite animal, I was going to put "The Shanklins...We Keep It Kraken" somewhere (google Kraken if you dont know what it is) but my cousin talked me out of it. I think it was for the better because I like it without the words :3

I brought in this pic:

And told my artist I basically wanted this but on my inner forearm so he freehanded everything while referencing back to the pic. Dude is mad good, never got a full highschool career (dropped out in 11th grade) and has been tattooing for like 4 years.

(Picture that made really want to go to him)

Nice grillz! 90%? hahaha just finish it! Are u going to get the other arm done? Always think it looks funny when someone has one arm done and not the other especially when it goes ontot he chest!

Also my friend back east, is getting tattooed by Rubendall! He made an appointment alittle over a year ago! I forgot he even got the appointment.. i will post pics after he shows me what he got done!

A year to get a appointment thats crazy.

Its 2 years now and a year is a short time for a great artist, most u find now is 2 years, some even more.. The longest i have heard was 5 years and thats Paul Booth, not sure if it got cut down yet but thats a long time! If u want an amazing tattoo, u will wait especially if its something u are going to want forever!

Just to add to what Scotty had to say, waiting for a year or more is not unusual for good artist, especially if they are well known in the industry for their style... just consider the amount of time it takes to complete a full back piece or something similar, and then multiply that by a huge following of tattoo enthusiasts and that explains why you sometimes have to wait as long as you do just for an appointment... But yeah, 5 year waiting list doesn't surprise me at all to be honest...

Also i think Booth stopped taking new clients as well.. A couple years ago he stopped doing smaller tattoos, u had to get sleeves or huge pieces done when going to him, reason his wait list is very long! a kid i used to hang out with put him self on the the waitlist when it was around 2 years, that was about 5 years ago, i wonder if he got the work done? He was getting a whole sleeve done..

LA has the most... Dont need to go far! Here are some off the top of my head:

Jess Yen - little outside LA, on 2 year list i believe, im going to be going to his shop in couple weeks
Koi - he's at high voltage(kat von d's shop) might be paying hollywood prices
Pepe - Rons's artist, look at rons arm a few pages back, try pming him if interested
Jiro Yaguchi - strictly japanese, also heard he does everything freehand as well, no stencil

Here in SD: Arron Della Vedova, amazing sleeve work, 1 and half wait or pay 300 an hour for right then

There is a dude in Orange County but think of his name but these are prolly your best, unless u did some more research which there is others just naming these guys off the top of my head.. Also if anyone else knows add em to the list! Also most likely u will be on a waitliest for these guys, but if u want the best work, u will have to wait but make sure u put a depsoit down so u are on the list! Like told other on here, u could get bumped up if people cancel...

* Also Las Vegas Expo is n a couple of weeks, the biggest in the world, and the best in world will be there!

You goto Jess Yen yet?! What are you getting done?

Mike Giant is taking small appts at $300/hr with a max of 3 hrs, so only small pieces. He is amazing. I want a script tattoo from Giant.
