hello people, its chuk, and i had a seriously heated argument w/ a female friend of mines who's into the street scene just cuz her and her fam is based all out NY and she stays at alife and what not. but anyway, i was saying oh its funny how street/skate got alotta white and asians rockin the fitteds hard. she was like yea but blacks is the majority in streetwear anyway, im like are you serious?!?! come on!! shes like i dont know what state you're in and i tell her im talking about streetwear/skatewear all over the world she wouldnt budge tho.

so i say all that to ask this: who do YOU think/know/believe/percieve to be the majority/minority/in between/evenly distributed races in this culture?

i personally think one thing for sure: blacks are inherently the minority in streetwear because the money, knowledge and culture are the least readily available to them across the board(or world in this case...)

Thanks for your thoughts and please dont make this a flame/hate/rascism thread, it's just a topic of discussion, plus i want concrete evidence i can rub in my friend's face...cool

I'm black and I agree, we do make up the minority of streetwear consumers. You're right about the fact that most of us lack the funds to buy streetwear. However, HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT KNOWLAGE/CULTURE AREN'T AS READILY AVAILABLE TO US??? We were the ORIGINAL sneakerheads, we STARTED the culture, not the mention the fact that most streetwear is hip-hop inspired!!!!

I would say that the % of races when it comes to streetwear are: 20% black, 40% white, and 40$ asian.

btw, even though i agree that we are the minority of streetwear consumers, i do think that this thread is irrelevant and should be locked

i see your point man, but the thing that separates (and alienates) a large fraction of would-be black street/shoe heads is the skate/punk aspect which was definitely not (directly) started perpetuated or supported by the black majority in most areas. and i dont think this thread should be locked because its just a valid topic as any other in an off-topic forum...

it depends how you define 'streetwear' the 'white/asian/skate' streetwear scene i would say in the usa is smaller than the 'black/latino/hiphop' streetwear scene

Me being a black male, my take is that streetwear is predominately worn by white's and asian's, especially the owners of independent brand's are the same race. I only have one friend that knows about streetwear in its entirety and he is black. The only people I see around my area with streetwear on are asian.

most notably, the one about us not really careing about the scene is somewhat true. because those wearing the tall tees/forces/rocawear ect...
are in content with there options. there satistfied.

Ok the reason he said the funds arent avalible is casue the majority of blacks live in the inner city and innercity schooling isent good. Black people were NOT the first sneakerheads. Italian people were wearing croc skin back when black people were still being discrimanated agains very badly. NE Mafia.

Minorities arent as up to the game because they simply arent on the internet as much. They get most of their style and influence from the street.

Streetwear live on the net.

but im not going to lie. i like that i can walk down the streets and not feel like i look like every other fucking black dude walking down the streets.

*in BET voice* indivisualism. it's my thing.
