I'm a huge action buff, but all of these films incorporated aspects from different genres, which made them more than just another action flick.

Heat is a good film, the original, L.A. Takedown is good also.  Not a fan of Private Ryan, just found it a bit dull(beach landing was well done though), war films i much prefer are Platoon, Kellys Heroes, Great Escape, Dirty Dozen, Hamburger Hill and Brotherhood (Korean).
