Half the users on this site haven't even graduated high school...

How did y'all start building credit? Is the secured card a good way to start?

If you pay any bill under your name, that is a start. You want to pay all of those on time for your credit to improve. Getting a credit card helps greatly too. Just to help you out, apply for a student card in the beginning because you will have the best chance of getting one instead of applying to 10 different cards and adding 10 credit inquiries to your report. Keep your utilization at 20% and you will be good. Also make sure you don't get anything to collections or your credit will go down greatly.

^^^i applied to a student card but the report came back that the address and phone number on my account was wrong, and that i had a TON of inquiries on my account so i have to wait a year or something before i apply again

Really? I have never heard of waiting that long before reapplying. Which student card did you apply to? I have Capital One, but I wish I applied to the Discover It card from the beginning. Better rewards, but probably same APR.

Another thing, are you working? I applied for a balance transfer to Discover, but got turned down due to the fact that I stopped working this summer. Having a job helps greatly for acceptance.

Yeah, having a steady job definitely helps.

It's pretty simple to build credit: pay your bills on time, use your credit card, etc.

Too old for forums makes no sense, this forum has by far the youngest users of the other forums I check, but I would argue that the heads on here old nuff for credit checks are the same ones making valuable posts... Thats just one mans opinion.

That said I have no idea what my credit score is, I am 22, and I don't have a credit card (I should idk why I never get around too it) but I would have to assume it must be damn good because I've always paid all my tickets, I pay my truck on time every month, and my other bills are not in my name and regardless I pay those on time as well.
