I was thinking about this recently.

Why do retail stores have hours like 11am-7pm and shorter on Sunday?

If people have jobs and work 9-5 or 10-6, when are they supposed to shop? Wouldn't it make more sense to be open longer and later?

Why are stores even open at 11am at all? Do people really go to malls during the week during the day and buy stuff?

whats the point in being opened longer and later when people have days off and can go in earlier?
the reason why its more effective to be opened later on weekdays is because people get out of class or from work much later for example 4-7. Shops might close at 10-11 giving them time to grab shit if they cant during lunch or in the morning.

People usually aren't working nor going to class on weekends so places close later because what needs to be bought can be bought at an earlier time.

Look at it through a different perspective.  My parents grind 362 days a year, 9am-10pm; Sunday is the only day we get to have dinner as a family since it's shorter.

Why are you questioning it, people need a break sometimes.

Costs of running extra hours (more wages paid, electricity, etc.), more convenient times for customers, etc.
