"Him and his dad weren't "in" on it"
"Te'o and Kekua meet after Stanford's 45-38 victory over Notre Dame in Palo Alto, according to the South Bend Tribune: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes." Kekua, a Stanford student, swaps phone numbers with Te'o."
"They started out as just friends," Te'o's father, Brian, told the Tribune in October 2012. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there."
So either Manti lied to that reporter and said he'd met her in real life when he didn't, or the reporter made up that they met in real life, which I highly doubt.
Not only that, but he either lied to his dad about him meeting this girl in hawaii, or his dad knew and helped keep up the facade.
Not saying he pulled this as a publicity stunt or that he couldn't have been misled at some point but he def aint being honest about the situation. My guess is that the reporter found out he had a gf when he was still being catfished, and he felt embarassed about her being an e-relationship and made up a story about how they met.
