@panther-2 wish ive already dropped 1.5k on modding it got a MOE stock and MOE trigger guard coming in the mail just need my flashlight upfront and ill be tacticool. Let me shoot you with my airsoft gun if thats what you think it is. cool

.357 is good for home defense but id suggest going with a shotty and do the buck shot/slug load. Buck shot to stop em rack it up slug in chamber to finish em off.

i made a thread on this about a month ago.

Nice AR. I dont like those magpul MOE fore grips though.

i just got an Sabre defense lower and mated it with an Armalite upper. Shot like 300 rounds at the ragne the other day, works perfect. DD Free float rail too.

My only other gun right now is a 9mm M&P. Feels great in the hand

@mvrcus dont need bigger than 5.56 for AR for range up to 600 yards. If i want to hit 1k yards gonna go with .416 barrett since 50BMG is illegal in cali.

5.56 makes contact at 600 yards... IF it does, you aren't gonna kill or even immobilize the target without an extremely well placed shot... anything more than 500 yards is grounds for the 308. Anything bigger than 308 costs too much for the avid shooter on a budget. I have nothing against a 5.56 cal in situations under 200-300 yds, but bet your bottom dollar 7.62 has claimed more lives than the 5.56, and your model jams up in the field like Pennsylvania ave at 5pm, the AK does not.

7.62 claims more cause it simply is available for everything. I had a Saiga 7.62 and a SKS for awhile and its a great round cause ammo is cheap. 5.556 is def good for 300 and under yards. I would def not use it as long range for defending myself or anything. I need a rifle after SASS build looking at R700 .338 Lupa more affordable than the .416 CA legal Barrett.

@araw-at-bituin Fully or semi?

@silviodante is that a working suppressor?

*maim. Not sure what your point is bringing up the 556 stopping power at 600ft when the 762 has a lower effective range. Nobody should deny that the 762, being the heavier round, is more devastating at shorter ranges, but to say that the 556 is only for maiming is silly considering that it kills people. Haha.

That said, I prefer the feel of an AR just because of the familiarity. It feels just right on the shoulder and I'm more familiar with the mechanics. But AK's have proven to be more reliable. I haven't gotten either yet because i'm still up in the air about it. But 556 is still a good round. Still weighing the pros cons and versatility of each.

anyone who says 223 or 556 is only for "maiming" is a fucking idiot. The 223 round is very high velicoty round with devestating effects at close range. Most of the time it will fragment when hitting soft tissue inflicting serious damage. At long range and against armoured targets its pretty mediocre, but those aren't really its applications anyways.

And as far as reliability of ARs go, I have 3000 rounds through my armalite AR with not a single hiccup, and I dont even clean it after every range trip.

Sure, if you are dragging your gun thru the mud every day and running over it with your car, AK might fair better. Other than that, differencees are negliable at best.

why does a civilian need this?

protection incase someone breaks in? or they're just interested in guns like some people are shoes? fuck, would rather own a dope gun than some $500 sneakers.

so would you really use this on someone breaking into your home to steal your PS3?

i wouldn't use my guns on anyone breaking into my house unless they were going to harm me or my friends/family.. even then if he was tryin to punch me out i wouldnt pull a gat.. if he had a weapon though.. different story.

self defence laws here in canada are too fickle for me to shoot someone without good reason.. I'd definitely end up in jail if i couldn't prove someone was trying to take my life.

the main reason i own guns is for hobby and because they are fun as fuck to shoot

@dmwalking *maim is correct, didn't take the time to double-check, regardless.. You sure about the effective range comment? I was suggesting the 7.62x51* ( 308 ) was more suitable for @ 500 yards, than an AR-15, I only mentioned the AK as far as its reliability as compared to AR-15. Personally I'd take a Remington 700 and 1 magazine @ 3/4 the price versus @crackpipelips w/ an AR-15 and 200 rounds. Not to mention I could probably do it within the proclaimed 600m effective range, without utilizing the effective range of a Remington 700 @ 1000+.

@crackpipelips no one said a 5.56 was ONLY to maim, but at 600 yards as OP suggested, that's about all it will do. Do you even shoot bro?
