I think they made the iPad mini to compete with the Nexus 7 tablet...

They did to get a share of the 7" tablet market.

Also I think it's ridiculous that they took the optical drives out of the iMacs and that you can't upgrade the RAM yourself unless you buy the 27" model.

You can tell that while Apple is putting a competitive product in the market, they're only dipping their feet in. This new version has no retina display and an A5 chip. If they were sure it'd be successful, they'd have packed with solid hardware.

im going to cop 32GB Nexus 7 tab once it releases on 29th or maybe i'll wait for the samsung google nexus 10inch tablet when it's announced.

nexus 7 got better resolution, cheaper price, get it rooted and use OTS cable w/the USB stick, and has the NFC feature.

not gonna cop. I could buy an ipad 3 refurbished for $300. not worth it for something so small. I realize that the point is that it's smaller, but I don't really need it since I have an ipod touch that does the same stuff.

It's got sheisty resolution too though, for the phone it's fine, but not on a ~10" tablet. The new HTC J Butterfly has better resolution(1080p) than both devices, and it's only a 5" phone(/phablet). Dat Retina crushing 440ppi.

The Nexus tablets are only being sold at their low price because Google is selling them at a loss. They make money back through software endeavors. The same thing has been happening with many contemporary gaming consoles. With the insane amount of traffic and business the Apple App Store gets, I wouldn't doubt that if they wanted to, they could make a top tier product and do the same thing. That's not part of the Apple business model though.
