When wagering do you just bet who is going to win? I'm not to familiar with the whole over under and reading the lines on games.
Yeah, you have several choices b.
You have things called moneylines. Moneylines are basically the odds of a certain team winning.
Let's say we have a Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers game or some shit.
If the odds were Miami -135, it means that you have to bet $135 to win $100, $13.50 to win $10 and $1.35 to win $1.00.
Now if the Lakers are the underdog, it means that they are less likely to win according to the oddsmakers so they give them a positive price point. So lets say the Lakers are +120 (anytime you a see "+" it means they're the underdog) that means that if you bet $100 you win $120 and so on and so forth.
It's not complicated at all. Moneylines are straight up bets. Moneyline is you basically saying this team is gonna win straight up. The bigger the number on a favorite, the more favored they are to win, the bigger the number on an underdog, the bigger the underdog they are considered by the oddsmakers. The reality of betting is this: anything can happen. There are no guarantees. So sometimes oddsmakers fool you by inflating the value of a particular team. That's why, if you know a lot about the sport your betting on, you know when and where you can bet and make a profit.
However, sometimes when there's a game and one of the teams is like -800 favorite like lets say it's the Miami Heat against the Charlotte Bobcats or some shit like that, then that means that most people aren't gonna pay $800 to win $100.
So let's say the spread of the game is like 15.5 at -110 odds, that means if you were to bet on the spread, you're saying that the Heat will cover the spread by at least 16 points for you to win the wager or if you picked the Bobcats with points, you're saying the Heat won't win by more than 16.
So let's say you bet on the Heat to cover that spread and the final score is 106 to 70, the Heat covered the spread easily.
Now what i the Over/Under for the game was 175.5? That means the oddsmakers determined the total combined score was 175. If you picked over, you bet that the score would exceed 175. In this case, if you bet on the over, you would've won by half a point.
It's not complicated at all, you can pick it up in 5 minutes. If you were interested, I can help you out. I help a lot of beginning bettors get into the game nahmean?
