it depends on the person-we at delta cant do it but other airline people tell me that they sometimes waive that extra fee and let you go on with your shit, if its like up to 54 then its cool to go on because most people (if your nice to them) will let that slide,
the extra fee for an "overweight" bag is about an extra 100-200 bucks,

if you are a dick to the person who is checking you in they willll personally charge you more
