Does anyone else here have Sleep Paralysis? If you're unaware what it is, it's a condition where a person is falling asleep or awaking from sleeping and are temporarily unable to move, speak, and function. But your still able to think.
I've had it happen to me alot growing up, every once and a while. A few days ago I had it, like always, I wasn't able to move, or speak (even though I tried to). I was left with my thoughts, it's just a really weird feeling. Almost unexplainable, does anyone else have SP? Or could describe it in your own words?

i used to get this ALL the time. it got to the point where i could feel it coming on or be scared that it was and try to keep on moving. when i was younger i shared a bed with my brother, i would go inti sleep paralysis and think i was dying. i knew if he moved me id be back to normal, but i couldnt yell or say anything, so i thought i would die right next ti him, while he was awake. apparently the more you fight it the longer it stays. its also a way to lucid dream apparently.

man. 2 weeks ago i was having a lucid dream (which has literally only happened twice in my life) and when i woke up, my eyes were still closed. i know i was awake because i could hear the tv and i could think coherently, but i couldn't open my eyes and i couldn't move my arms or legs. it had never happened to me before so i was freaking the fuck out, but i read about it and knew that changing your breathing pattern will make it stop so i just held my breath and fully awoke like a second later.

shit was crazy

Yea the first time it happened to me I was a younger teen in the backseat on a long family trip, I woke up and could hear my dad talking but I could see him or move, and it was horrifying.

But the one I had a few days ago, I was smoking before bed, and had the SP, it was more peaceful, or bizarre, than scary. I don't know. Haha.

I suffer from this constantly. It's apparently abundant in drinkers. it's like a bad trip, scary as fuck and hallucinate images and noises.

I always lucid dream but never had sleep paralysis. It annoys me because my brother and sister always wake up terrified and tell me they felt like they were awake but frozen, and tried to scream for me.

I just think your body is lagging and parts of your brain/body aren't completely functioning yet, causing the frozen sensation. If that shit happened to me, I think i would react by just waiting for my body to start up, like a slow ass computer.

it is man. like i said it's only happened twice but it's cool as fuck.

there's a lot of shit you can do to make them happen and i've always meant to try them but never have. both times have happened randomly and within the last 3 months.

Hasen't happened to me in about 6 years. It was terrifying. I woke up scared shitless. It feels like a coffin almost. More like an entire body straight jacket... not in a relaxed way though. Like your entire body is flexing in a straight jacket. I've been trying to lucid dream recently though... not luck. Never done it.

Anyone ever heard of astral catalepsy? I'm not a "spiritual" person, but that shit sounds freaky. Happened to my mom and sister.

Also, lucid dreaming sounds pretty gnar, but then I read it can cause sleep paralysis, and now I'm scared.

Thank god, i'm planning out a way on how to activate sleep paralysis on purpose so maybe I can control it and have some crazy ass adventures with out the panic.

it's really not even that big of a deal though i feel like. if it happened to me again i'd let it happen for a while just because it was such a weird experience.

like i said if it does happen all you have to do is change your breathing pattern. gasp for air or hold your breath and you'll wake up.

I studied Psychology at school... but by no means am I a straight A student, so my explanation might be a little off. But I'll try to explain it as best I can.

Basically, there are I think four, maybe five stages of sleep, and the only one that's really important is Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. That's when we dream. It's called REM because your eyes move rapidly (obviously) because of electrical discharges in your brain that create the sensation of a conscious experience, which is what a dream is. Apparently dreams are an evolutionary coping technique that mimics the discharges (thoughts, sensations, feelings) from the day as a sort of encoding technique. Like if you practice riding a bike all day your brain will mimic those discharges to embed them into your subconscious memory and you'll know how to ride a bike better, or if you're thinking all day about how your girlfriend is cheating on you, you'll dream about her doing some suspect shit or you fucking some other broad because it'll make your subconscious feel better as a sort of confirmation of a perceived reality. As far as I can remember scientists don't know why it works like that, but that's what they think happens. But what they do know is that your body, sans the eyes, is paralyzed in REM sleep so you're not physically thrashing around in you're fighting off the Chicago goons trying to steal your Galaxy Dream-posites, or whatever it is you dream about.

Sleep Paralysis is when you disengage from a dream and become somewhat, not usually completely but sometimes so, conscious of the real world again but your body unfortunately is still paralyzed by your brain. It happens to a lot of people and is always pretty scary, but for all intents and purposes it's normal. You can't really do anything to snap out of it except wait. But as far as I know it's got nothing to do with demons.

So yeah. There ya go.

For anyone who's really interested in a mental/Spritual journey this might intrest you. It's called Sensory Deprivation, guess it's kinda old news but its really cool. There's places that offer to do it, you can find locations online actually. But I found one 2 years ago and did it, you're put into this tank, and you lay down in highly salted water causing you to float, the tank is shut, you can't see, hear, smell anything. And the further you go in the session the more you lose yourself, and you're only with your mind. The place I did it at the dude said people trip then come have a session and it's insane. I would recommend it to people.

Used to happen to me so much that I got used to it. First time it happened I thought I was gonna die. Paralyzed, real loud ringing in my ears like if my ear was next to a fire alarm, but I could look around my room. Another time I was seeing weird shit. People walking through my living room and talking each other. After a while you get used to it though.
