It's that time of the year again when everyones getting hyped up to move into apartments, dorms, etc for school mid to late August, and I'm stuck for my last 2 semesters at community college. Shit sucks cause everyone is leaving except for me and essentially all the fuck ups from my high school.

I applied to schools when it was application time my senior year of high school, and I'm not trying to sound like a douche or brag but I got into all the schools I applied to, but when it came down to it, I couldn't front the bill. I'm in that class of people who can't afford to pay for school fully, but I'm not piss poor enough to get aid, so I ended up just going to CC.

Anyone else at community college trying to save a few bucks, or stay out of debt? To the dudes who are heading out to school in the next few weeks, hope you all do well.

Yea sorry, I guess I left some shit out, I am transfering to a University after this year. Basically doing a 2+2 program like frozzy posted. Like I know I'm saving alot of cash going to CC, still getting alot of credits, am able to work part time to save up money for when I leave for my junior year, but it's just the fact that everyone is leaving and I'm staying I guess.

Here's my dilemma. Like you, I go to a CC (actually a 4 year institution that can easily pass as CC). However, it wasn't just the financial struggles that drove me away from seeking other schools, but my piss poor performance in High school that led me here. Now that I'm finished with my 2 years, I decided to broaden my horizon and looked into various schools. I applied, and been accepted to all. One of the universities happened to be one of my top choices. I was adamant about attending there, so I paid my deposit and sent out my required documents. Now, school is approaching fast and I am re-evaluating EVERYTHING. Financially, I cannot afford it. Academically, I do not know where I want to head with my career.

How much does experience matter? Prestige? Taking in debt? Is it worth it?

This was pretty much my situation as well. I had good grades, but couldnt afford the schools, but wasnt poor enough for financial aid. But I transfered to a commuter school(Csulb) anyway.

As far as I know, you can't get the deposit back, but you can get tuition refunded if you don't think you're ready, I know I'm not in a position to give advice for college, but if you're truly unsure about how well you're going to do in school, just hit up CC or the 4 year school you were previously in and save the money.

Also for the record, I basically felt this way last summer, when everyone was leaving for college, cause I can remember having the same mind set I do now, but once the fall/spring semesters were coming to an end, I was happy that I was debt free and still took all the same gen ed courses as my friends at a 4 year school who were already in debt thousands of dollars.

I still don't know what I want to do with my life. So I got an associates degree. If I knew what I wanted, I'd pursue it and get a bachelors. But the fact is, I have no idea what I want to do.

I'm 24. I have never know what I wanted to study. Out of 8 semesters of full time schooling I took, the only classes that ever interested me were film, photography, and math.

Didn't take me 6 years to get it. I've been going on and off for 6 years. I had my degree after 2. I kept going because A) it was 100% free & paid for (thank you FAFSA) and B) I was hoping I'd eventually take a class that interested me, and would lead into a path of study.

Feel you op, cc sucks ass but I only need two more semesters like you till I transfer to a real university that I got accepted to. With my sister finishing her masters and me continuing I know my parents are gonna have a hard time paying. All can advise is maybe try to apply for scholarships/finical aid. It pisses me off that people who have the money and are going to college are failing like idiots and blowing the money away when niggas like you can be using that... Hope all goes well op and you find a way out of cc

This.... to some extent...PK, no hate to you though, but this shit is a real hard stereotype my dude. Not everyone who goes to CC is a brain dead kid that couldn't get into a real school. It may be just me, but I'm not looking to go to a 4 year university just to be able to say I do and be in a pound of debt. I'm looking to get my degree and owe as little as I possibly can.

I go to a city college right now. Last one i went to was a joke and was like Highschool 2 BUT the current one im attending has the programs I need to specifically get accepted to the school of my dreams....with scholarship. The CC im at has the absolute highest transfer rate of any school in the nation for the school i want to get into. Beats all other transfer schools by 15x combined . Needless to say im absolutely at the right place and couldnt be happier as Im on track. For my specific circumstances highschool could have NEVER prepared me for my career path using the traditional 4 year Uni. Im working on getting into the #1 design school in the country and the school has professors teaching at both schools so its perfect for letters of recommendations, work load adjustment, etc. Got to say I love my experiences at my current CC. smile on my way with scholarships soon enough

thing about CC's you cant waste your time. Use your time wisely and beast it up. So much cheaper too if you have set educational career plans and arent trying to figure your life out like bum ass kids do who still dont give a shit.

Don't worry about it blood. I was gonna go to school up in New York (St. Johns) but those niggas were absurdly expensive. I was looking at the interest rates on the loan and at the amount and I was like, "These niggas crazy." College should be looked at like an investment. If your investment is to get a master's or doctorate in a medical field or some shit like that, it's one thing, but if you're going to shell out $30,000- $50,000 a year to major in fucking Sociology or some bullshit like that, enjoy getting raped in the ass by Sallie Mae.

I got to CC (reluctantly) but at the end of it all, I'm going to be owing these fuck niggas jack shit. I'm not relying on a degree to get me a degree anyway. Everybody should rely on their networking and inernships to get a good job because the truth is jobs are scarce out there so if you're gambling on that degree you just spent a shit ton of bread on and lose, Sallie Mae is gonna be molesting you until the end of your days. Good credit is vital too so if you think you gonna be gold card status like BuddyOmar, think again nigga. Enjoy your Capital One you fucc niggas! cool

this.

i also transferred from CC to University. You can really lose track and end up being a super senior at a cc. Every cc has a program that transfers you to a University guaranteed. If your in Cali, the program is called the IGETC. Look into your transfer programs and talk to your counselors

Exactly. I don't understand why cc generates such a negative image around it. I mean it's not that great, but it's not horrible either. Depending on how serious you take it, a lot of people just go to get the financial aid and don't give a shit about it. That's what pisses me off the most
