I usually have a steady 1-2MB/s download speed, and that's while streaming HD Netflix. It's all over wifi too.

I use:
Transmission
18mbps connection
Ubuntu 12.04
Private trackers that I mentioned earlier.

I stopped downloading movie torrents after finding noobroom. At the moment I'm downloading video games and they are way bigger than whatever file you downloaded and took ya 3 months, lol.

The thing about torrentday is there's no peers that want to download whatever big ass file you download. So it'll probably be 3 months or more before i hit a 1/1 ratio. The plus side is if you keep it seeding you get bonus points and can "purchase" upload credits to keep your ratio up.

speed.cd has open registration right now I believe.
scenetime.com is closed, but I think you can donate $5-10 and get an account with 5GB upload credit and an invite, thus circumventing closed registration.
Both of those are great for TV and movies. There's more on there too, but I use them for HD video/TV.

I have two invites for AsiaTorrents.com
It has classic and contemporary films from all over Asia. Music. Dramas. Lots more too. Hit me up with a PM if you wanna trade invites.

I use Kickass and Piratebay. I have Vuze for the program because it had a search engine and uTorrent was wack to me. It took about 7 hours to download like 6 seasons of dexter. Huge ass file. I think my ISP is slowing down my bandwidth now though, everything is all slow.

My school has a few student-run servers that host around 15 TB of media that are pretty consistently being updated as per the request of other students. And at download speeds of 2 Mb/s + nonetheless. Haven't torrented since coming to school. Can't complain.

Took me 3 weeks to download every one of the sims 3 expansions and original game for my sister. I think it was like 40 gigs and there were only 2 fucking seeders.

How do you keep a good ratio? Doesn't seeding leave you open to getting caught?

On your basic ass connection, high download(10-25mbps) low upload(512kbps-2mbps), it's really hard to maintain a good ratio from seeding alone because you rarely go over 50-100kbps upload on the more popular torrents. However, by seeding you gain bonus points and those can be exchanged for upload credit. Some use different point systems, but usually like 1 point per hour of seeding, and you can cash them in for 1-5GB credit. If you want to stick to one main tracker, it's helpful to just donate money and 'buy' upload credit, during 2X credit months, it's really easy to to get to a 2-3 ratio immediately, and that only runs you $10-20. You can also buy full months of freeleach, in which you can DL whatever you want w/o affecting your DL ratio while still gaining points/upload. Good private trackers usually offer 25+GB torrents as freeleach, so it's the same deal.

As for 'getting caught' just download PeerBlock. Although I think it's almost a non-issue on private trackers.

She actually gave me $30 so I just went for it.

Also just registered for Speed.cd, I needed a new tracker after demonoid died. I've been using TPB.
