How hard is it?

I got a 560 on my Math SAT (I know, it's pathetic) but I feel like if I really try,
i'll be able to take down a Physics major and all the math class that is required.

I heard Physics is much harder than any Engineering but thats only a rumor....

Keep in mind that the University im going to isn't even top national 100.
It's top 50 in the North regions, though.

(Towson University to be exact)

Just research deeply about every topic covered in the lecture and you'll manage. (Textbook, Youtube, Google, Wiki, w/e)

It applies to all field, and although it's time consuming, it's really the best way to tackle your courses.

What's your reason for wanting to study physics? Keep in mind that you will ultimately need to go to grad school if you want to work as a physicist. If you're doing it just because you're interested in it, you might as well major in engineering and take physics classes for a minor or something. That way you have a degree that's career-oriented and will have a shot at lucrative entry-level jobs with only a Bachelor's.

Don't do it unless you're good at abstract thought and theory. The math isn't even that much of an integral part of the learning process.

I scored a 680 on my Math SAT section and tried physics at one of the top-5 universities for physics and overall undergrad (University of Chicago). I got two D's in intro Physics courses and due to grades and other bullshit not worth mentioning I had to leave school. Tread with caution.

I think that you should ONLY do physics in a top-tiered or reputable school because for the possibility of finding a physics job you need to have at least a masters or a PHD in a renowned school. (Not saying Towson U is bad. but I have never heard of it) Most likely you may end up a teacher. Finish your G.E. and then maybe transfer to a better school.
My recommendation is not even going to a physics major if you score below a 2000 in the SAT or get below a 4.0 gpa cuz all the brainies go to physics and it'll be impossible to match up against them. Also the classes are beyond any class you will ever take.

Do you have a job in mind? or do you just want to be a physics major because you heard it's hard and the people who do it are considered to be highly intelligent?

I know a Civil Engineer who barely got through his math classes in college and he's probably making more starting out than most physics majors will, assuming you're not coming out of a top university.

I feel you. I'm trying to transfer to Yale from a state school in Kansas City, and I know I'll get in. But I can't wait to see if I'll fuck that up or not. I'm a dysfunctional genius. I swear I've had more chances at school than Ma$e has had in restarting his career. Let me reiterate myself very well: I went from a 2000+ SAT and top-5 university freshman to a community college dropout all in the span of two years. Make sure you know what your strengths are and utilize them, and try to cover up your weaknesses as much as possible. I'm not Sun Tzu, but this should be common sense.

OP I've seen threads you made before. No offense, but if you major in Physics, you're going to fail.
I mean cmon, you're making threads like this : http://hypebeast.com/forums/off-topic/145013/ just a year ago and that shit is easy. You won't make it.

Physics is more theory and application than mathematics.Think of physics in terms of another science like organic chemistry or micro biology, rather than an extension of mathematics. I switched majors because of my physics classes, it just wasn't clicking for me, and I too did really well on my math classes.

Even better just watch the big bang theory.

I say go for it. You have those people that are naturally smart. Then you also have those people who try hard. The majority of people in any major are those who try hard. Dont let your SAT scores or information you gather from other people deter you. If you get accepted into a school complete all your pre-reqs and study hard, extremely hard (pause).

As far as your comment saying physics is a harder major than engineering, I would have to agree. Although, engineering is physics to some extent. The two are intertwined. Physics is more conceptual and abstract imo. The actual math is easy. Applying the math for a given situation is what is difficult. I'm studying engineering. The problems we have to solve are all aspects of physics. Math is just a tool you use to solve the problems. We have a lot of physics majors that transfer over to engineering due to the fact that you'll have better job opportunites as an engineer with a bachelors.

Also keep in mind there are different types of physics degrees and options coupled together. Applied physics, engineering physics, applied physics-computer science, applied physics-engineering (option), biophysics, etc... I would talk to an advisor at your school and see whats best for you.

how hard is physics?
Depends on who is teaching it tbh. if you get a shitty professor its gonna be difficult since they are usually not sociable and can't communicate with students well. You should at least talk/email the professors that are teaching it to get an idea of how the course work is. engineering, physics its all hard thats not why everyone does it. upside of things is physics probably has more girls in it than engineering. your probably gonna change your major anyways like 90% of undergrads do. physics is not abstract thought and theory. its supported by math and equations. you need to figure out the velocity of a basketball being dropped from 5 feet above the ground? easy, there's equations to use to find your answer. chemistry is theory and abstract. have you ever seen an atom?

A big portion of physics has to do with theory, there is even a branch "theoretical physics." String theory, M theory, dark matter, etc. all try to explain how time, energy, and space works.

your jumping ahead, you have to start with the basics first, physics I & II. gotta crawl before you walk son. if he can't get through physics I & II, you should really reconsider your college career.

WTF!?

Honestly, i have a passion for History. I'm well at it too. Probably have more knowledge than any
student who took/takes AP World/US History. (I never even took an AP History class either)

But i decided not to major in that cause most likely it'll just take me to being a teacher....
Im trying to go into a major where I can get $$$ with a Bachelors.... But the top 11
are all Engineering and Physics. #12 is Economics which i was thinking about but decided not to since
it's like getting a Business degree....

Don't do it. Major in a flavor of Engineering. Physics major is not worth it unless you find some deep satisfaction in studying it for the rest of your life... or until you finish your PHD. Engineering is just practical applications of physics anyways AKA it makes you money.

Physicists arent that highly in demand. you will need to get a PhD if you want to look into a career in physics. if you like physics but want a more practical degree (without needing to go to graduate school) then do some type of engineering.

A 2000+ SAT isnt that impressive for Yale, and guaranteed to get into Yale after dropping out of community college. Mad suspect or you're rain man
