What BYU students know about black people

February 08, 2012 @ 20:54:53
This is pretty messed up - dude goes to BYU in blackface and asks students at the mormon school Brigham Young University questions about Black History Month among other things.

"From 1849 to 1978, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) had a policy against ordaining black men to the priesthood, and forbidding black men and women from taking part in ceremonies in Mormon temples. Associated with this policy were various doctrinal statements by church leaders tying the policy to Mormon scripture, and opining that black men and women had been "less valiant" than whites and other races in the preexistence, and had inherited the curse of Ham. These doctrines were brought into question by 1978, when the LDS Church lifted its practice of racial discrimination, although the doctrines have never been officially repudiated. Racial doctrines regarding black people are still in force within Mormon fundamentalism."

when your source is wikipedia your argument is invalid. This video is inferring that all mormon's are racist, which is far from the truth. The blackface served no purpose and i'm guessing the students were duped into believing that this was all a joke.

did you pay attention to the questions he was asking? he kept asking if they could tell if a person was black even and in reality he was a white guy in black face and they couldnt even tell. proving that these people cant even tell a black person when they see one.
February 09, 2012 @ 03:41:36

February 09, 2012 @ 03:43:53

I'm pretty sure the video was trying to show the ignorance going on in BYU... nothing was implied to make it a generalization to all mormans. And lol @ the wikipedia thing, that's just something your high school teacher tells you because they don't want you using it to cheat on your essays
February 09, 2012 @ 06:49:21
the part with the painted skin was stupid though, I mean if a guy looking like him came up to you and asked you if you knew a black person when you saw one would you say "yes," or "YES! And to prove it, I'm calling you out because you're an imposter! You're a caucasian wearing blackface!"
