Any of Brian Greene's works on String Theory made for the general public. There not novel's but you stand to learn a lot from them. 1999. The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory.
2005. The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality.
2008. Icarus at the Edge of Time.
2011. The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos.

Also Nietzsche's, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra."

Anything by Ram Dass, Alan Watts, Terence McKenna or Robert Anton Wilson should be enlightening enough. Maybe not what your looking for but if you want something enlightening then I highly recommend books by these authors.

theres a few books on zen/taoist meditation you might like if your open to that kind of thing...i dont know what sense you meant "enlightening" in but they deal with the chi manipulation and meditation techniques monks use, pretty good reads
