A reserve currency, or anchor currency, is a currency that is held in significant quantities by many governments and institutions as part of their foreign exchange reserves. It also tends to be the international pricing currency for products traded on a global market, and commodities such as oil, gold, etc.
This permits the issuing country to purchase the commodities at a marginally lower rate than other nations, which must exchange their currencies with each purchase and pay a transaction cost. For major currencies, this transaction cost is negligible with respect to the price of the commodity. It also permits the government issuing the currency to borrow money at a better rate, as there will always be a larger market for that currency than others.

Reserve currency is what the name suggests, a reserve currency. Most (non third world countries) hold significant amounts of this reserve currency in the countries foreign exchange services. Basically this is where the country holds their foreign currency deposits.

The reserve currency allows the country to trade easier because they save money by not having to exchange currency for international purchases. US isnt "THE reserve currency" as he stated, but it is the largest.

The reason for this is that many countries including europe and china etc. have over time devalued their own currency against the US currency to allow for better export growth and development. But the US becomes just as dependant on those economies as opposite. Basically this allows the US to postpone their debts alot because having the US go bankrupt is not in the interest of the countries that are dependant on the dollars stability.

In short: Blunted isn't right, the US is just as dependant on the outside world as the outside world is dependant on the US. All big economies are globally dependant on each other. Excuse my english, discussing economy and shit isn't easy in another language, hope it's readable.

Ur right dude, the dollar isnt the exclusive world reserve currency, But it is the largest by a wide margin, the second being the euro.

both are printed by private central banks who have a monopoly on the issuance of money.

Also im fairly sure that If the US economy were to collapse then it would trigger collapses of almost every other fiat currency.

It is the largest indeed. But the euro is gaining in very quickly, especially because of the doubt about the US dollars stability.
Basically you are only gonna run dis hoe as long as the rest of the world needs you to. If China decides to fuck you they could, but thank god they are still such a poor ass country and still in their growth phase.
