6'1, 220 trying to get down to ~195 within the next 4 months.

Besides the obvious eat better and exercise (which I just started doing), are there any extra tips the average person wouldn't know about?

I.E: Doing 27 jumping jacks right before bed after eating a nutter butter?

As you stated, the diet really contributes to the "average" person's weight gain and loss. In about 4 months... losing about 40 pounds is possible in a healthy manner. On average if you stick to the whole "I won't drink soda or take any unnecessary junk food" attitude, you're sure to lose about 2 pounds just from a complete diet change (that is, assuming you drink soda/eat junk food on a daily/weekly basis).

Just see what you eat and watch it.
Sometimes when you think you are hungry, you are actually just thirsty.
Drink more water. A lot.

The Insanity workout. Seriously do cardio, sprint in place, do jumping jacks, jump up and down like your life depended on it for 20-30 minutes for 5 days out of the week like right before you eat a big meal. I use to do it right before I ate dinner. It sped up my metabolism and the pounds came off fast and try to stick to whole grains, organic food, WATER, and eat no more than 6 times a day every 3 hours.

Don't exercise before bed, dummy. That will just keep you up at night. If weight-loss is your goal you should focus on cardio over lifting with a low calorie diet.

cut out the junk food...sweets, fast food, soda, beer. East smaller portions and eat until you are not hungry anymore, not til you're full and save the rest for later. Eat breakfast. Exercise. Since you said you 4 months try p90x. It's intense I'm on like day forty. I haven't really loss weight. But I'm more tone and buffer. I probably coverted fat to muscle. I was never fat though but I've become more tone
