like basedmod said, this happened in 1996 and lasted for a few days until the Senate could agree on a budget. Before that it was the 70s-80s, I forget the year, but the government shutdown for about 2-3 weeks until a budget was agreed upon.

The Senate has the weekend to decide on a budget, if not, government agencies will be shutdown. However, government agencies that rely on first response or human safety will not shutdown.

if your a fed worker, you might get a few days off and receive backpay. >sad

Polls show that the anti-gov't party of the time are typically blamed for shutdowns (i.e. the Republicans in this case). The GOP knows this and are just flirting with it. I doubt they will let it happen. Bad political move. The Dems want it.
