It's still the same connection as the "3G" but they just changed the name. Supposedly, the iPhone 4S has been using "4G" but not like the 4G LTE connection.

It's stupid and I don't see why they did it.

Only AT&T 4s got it but it's the same connection. It's fast but not 4glite speed lol.

4S is HSPA+. It's faster than 3G which is HSPA. HSPA+ isn't as fast as LTE though which is "true" 4G. It's a faster version of the 3G not just a name change.
