It's about 120 trillion miles away, so it would take several generations for a spaceship to get there

Smh. No one here can grasp a tongue-in-cheek statement. Apparently one must write, 'no racist' after comments such as mine, so that the intellectual super giants of OT can comprehend the intended meaning.

it would take us like 361,000 years to get there with the technology we have now?

this is based on voyager 1 having been traveling for ~33 years and being ~115 au away and said planet (gilese 581g) being around 20 light years away.

maybe less since voyager 1 is 33 years old. idk maybe we have better rockets now.

By the comments I'm assuming non of you read the article. "It is about three times the mass of Earth, slightly larger in width and much closer to its star", "It's so close to its version of the sun that it orbits every 37 days. ", "It's about 120 trillion miles away"

That bitch isn't habital and if it was it's too damn far away. Only way any of us will be able to see and experience some shit like this is if you go under cryogenic hibernation and hope humans have advanced to bring your ass back to life.

Not very, it's similar to talking about the most epic tastiest cheesebuger but you never get to see it or taste it. Out of 2-500 billion galaxies detcted (which is just a fraction of this void we're floating in) by man I wouldn't be surprised if there were 10^googol habbital planets, fact of the matter is we'll never reach or experience them. Only thing it proves is there is a huge ass rock trillions of miles away.

Still fun to ponder though.

no, thats not what it means. the bible only writes about its history in THIS planet. Who knows what god made out there.

no... it just wouldn't be the god described in christianity

god can be considered whatever is the cause of our existence... benevolent or malevolent; designer or phenomenon

i for one am disappointed we havent been contacted by other intelligent life forms yet

i for one am disappointed we havent been contacted by other intelligent life forms yet

we probably have a while ago, but higher powers hid it because most of the population are too stupid to handle it

if the worlds best scientists have been wrong about the specs of the planets in our own solar system, then i wouldnt count on their claims being correct about a planet 120 trillion miles away.

although i hope they're wrong in a good sense and maybe it's been sustaining life for longer than earth and theres life evolved far beyond ours. and maybe theres intelligent life that sent out a pioneer spacecraft to earth that arrives in our lifetime.
