Stephen Hawking vs God

Modern physics leaves no place for God in the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded. Just as Darwinism removed the need for a creator in the sphere of biology, Britain's most eminent scientist argues that a new series of theories have rendered redundant the role of a creator for the Universe. In his forthcoming book, an extract from which is published exclusively in Eureka, published today with The Times, Professor Hawking sets out to answer the question: "Did the Universe need a creator?" The answer he gives is a resounding "no". Far from being a once-in-a-million event that could only be accounted for by extraordinary serendipity or a divine hand, the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, Hawking says. "Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing.

“Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing,” he writes. “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist."

How is spontaneous creation consistent with how we understand physics? Its not... I’d have to take that on faith given I’ve yet to see anything “spontaneously create” which as a concept stretches all sorts of probability nor does it coincide with what we can prove in the observable, real world.

I can't really say I'm surprised. I mean I doubt I will ever have the physics knowledge to begin to understand his theory, but the whole concept of "God" is too primitive and mystical to be the answer. If there is some kind of supreme being out there, I don't think it will be anything like what the major religions portray it to be.

I think about that too. What if there is a god or supreme being and it just created shit then chilled? No after life, no rewards for being "good" and no rules? I question whether people would be so loyal or devoted if they knew they weren't going to get anything for it.

This is my main problem with a god;

he interacted with humanity in ancient biblical times

humanity needs faith and guidance now, more than at any other time in the past. Were at a crossroads regarding the future of humanity and the planet. Where the fuck is that nigguh? Playing hide and seek with Vishnu and Allah?
September 03, 2010 @ 13:35:55
plus... do i want to put all my faith in the stories of these peoples ancient relatives???!!

but really...

I think about that too haha. All this crazy shit went down during the bible but not a damn thing has happened in the past 1,000 years. If someone said a burning bush talked to them now we'd say they were lying or crazy.

lol@ thinking that the realities of the present reflect those of the past.

Should we be afraid of germany b/c they were ruled by Nazis?

They were stripped down to nothing by the Treaty of Versailles, rebuilt under Nazi rule and started another war. They lost, and once again went through some rough economic times. Now they are the 4th largest economic power. Think about it. Them German Jews in the Illuminati are plotting something big, ask Jay-Z.

LOL!

Nah but for seriously God isn't crippled. Surely there is a certain degree of faith involved in taking Stephen Hawking's word for there being no God?

He is a physical being, probably one with miles of equations supporting his word. I haven't even seen a photo of God, and his proof is printed on rolling papers.
