Is this a serious question? Seeing as you have college on your mind i think you're too damn old to be asking this. Don't you think you could do well with 4 years to yourself and not being about 10-20k in debt?

It shouldnt be that way but in our society you need a college education. The way our system works someone has to be higher than someone else and that is where college (and networking) comes in. Executive>Manager>Employee its a fucked up system but it benefits the superiors. In my english class we had to write an essay about how we are all modern day slaves. I had to read a book called "The last Hours Of ncient Sunlight" By Thom Hartmann. Shit is eye opening.

It's not so much WHAT you know, but WHO you know. Being educated is always a plus but like people said I too know people who are thoroughly educated and can't find jobs whereas my friends who's uncle, dad, mom, etc. owns a company or whatever are MUCH better off financially. Start networking now my friend!

yeah^, but more often than not, you will meet these people in college.

Realistically, you're better off working hard and going to college; not everyone is as lucky or talented as the people mentioned above.

Realistically though he's not going to be a platinum selling rapper. From what i've seen college isnt necessary to become successful but it does help. But if you can network and shake the right hands i don't think a college degree is necessary. My friend was just telling me how his brother has a Masters in Business from Berkley and he hasnt been able to find a job for about 2 years or so.

College isnt conducive to success but, it helps. Also, you have to distinguish between real degrees and well, bullshit degrees.

your friend's brother "masters in business" heh, lets just say a "masters in any engineering" holds more weight than his degree.

I'm sure I can find someone who has a PhD in french and hasnt found a job in 10 years, its about what you choose and how you use it.

Fact is, most of you kids on here need college, to even survive modestly in this country. I highly doubt many of you could find a job to support yourself, I was making $17 an hour with tons of overtime, right when i got out of high school.

But it was a temporary job until I transferred and became a full time student. I was making enough to live on my own bringing home atleast $600-700 a week after tax. Could many of you do that? could many of you get past the interview, or even know where to look?

I am blessed and learned from a young age to network and lie(in a smart way, dont say your a fucking neurosurgeon from india).

But at the end of the day, i realized i have the rest of my life to work, so let me enjoy college, study, party, get girls, enjoy the city.

To be successful. Nope. It certainly raises your chances of attaining a more lucrative career, no doubt, but success is attained by people in their own way. A person could devote his life to a cause that doesn't generate money but still be considered successful and respectful amongst other people in that area. Now success and wealth are often mistaken as the same term, but fuck, you could be successful at playing fifa 10 yet still completely suck at soccer. If wealth is what you really mean then college helps, i guess. I don't have a degree and still managed to get a decent salary, still, its a job I fucken hate and am dependent on to pay bills..so you should look into college, if you wanna find something that fits your interests. Anyway, man don't get fooled by some college snobs that claim to be more intelligent than you, I don't mean all, but there are some that have this air of preeminence that pisses me off when in reality they don't even know where the fuck they are standing..be successful in your own terms not by the status quo.smile

you dont need education if you have good connection and money already in your hands, of course theres alot of succes story out there but i still think college is important cause if you look at it theres a SO many more uneducated ppl that spend their lives on minimum wage than there are uneducated rich ppl...

Damn...how did people ever confuse "education" with academic institutions? Get me... to be educated doesn't mean you necessarily have to go to school...To get a degree that says your adept at doing a job sure why not. Smarter, no. Lenin was expelled from his university and only came back to take his bar exam and passed, no lie. And he did it with no guide by a professor but by just reading a bunch of books on law.

I think that's just because most people who don't go to college are stupid. If you're intelligent without going to college you could probably do fine. And by intelligent i don't mean being able to shoot out random facts about things that don't matter.

If your referring to me with the random facts thing...I only used Lenin as an example how some people perceive if you go to college then your automatically educated, which is not because there are always exceptions. Some people can't afford to go college or just don't have time..

lol, no one is referring to you!

Of course there are the people that can't afford college or just do not have the time, but the real success stories are those people that do finish their education despite these obstacles.

College isn't "necessary", but that's saying that you are really, really driven. However, looking at it realistically, college is a very big help in regards to your credibility. I mean anyone can lie about having a background in engineering, but college gives the person validation that employers are looking for.

Unless you want to be your own boss, then that's a different story.

i am on the debate team at school, and this was one of our topics. i remember one of the stats i found was that 50 percent of millionaires don't have a college diploma. so, no college is in no way necessary. for stupid fucks who are very incompetent college is a great way for them to make it look like there semi intelligent. i plan on going to college, not because i believe i need it to be successful, but because i love learning and getting smarter.

Short answer is no.

Long answer:
It's important if your goal is to work for an established company that hires people based on their academic qualifications. Someone who wants to work their way up at Pricewaterhouse is going to need a degree in something that Pricewaterhouse sees value in, like accounting, finance, etc. Same goes if you want to be an engineer, doctor, psychologist, teacher, etc. Someone who taught themself AutoCAD isn't going to get hired by an engineering firm without a degree in engineering.

Even if your goal is to be an entrepreneur, a degree in business certainly wouldn't hurt, but there are a lot of successful entrepreneurs around the globe who didn't go to or finish college. There are plenty of things you can do and be successful at without a college degree.

i'm the best mayne, i deed it
