"A wild leopard attacked five people on a three-hour rampage in the eastern Indian city of Guwahati, killing one man before being tranquilized by authorities.
Residents told AP the leopard attacked a 50-year-old lawyer as he talked on his cellphone. He was rushed to a hospital where he died Sunday.
Witnesses told the Calcutta Telegraph that unruly crowds cornered and threatened the leopard, which may have provoked it.
Manas Paran, a local newspaper photographer, recounted the attack. After mauling a several people, the leopard jumped walls and wandered to other homes in the crowded neighborhood. Paran followed from a distance in order to photograph the leopard and what he saw next astonished him.
Paran describes what he saw in sharp detail, "I ran around one of the homes to try and keep up with the leopard. I turned the corner and what I saw next shocked me. The leopard was wrestling a man who had blood spraying from the top of his head. The leopard swiped and attacked him, but he was able to wrestle down the leopard." Paran continues, "This man must have had some form of MMA training or his instincts took over because what I saw next can only be described as a true tale of man versus beast. He grabbed the leopard's left arm and put it into an arm-bar. He then proceeded to break the leopard's left arm and then the man yelled viciously, picked up the leopard above his head, and then slammed it into the concrete floor. I believe this move was the Razor's Edge."
Wildlife officials eventually tranquilized the leopard, rushed it to a veterinarian hospital, and planned to release it at a wildlife park 120 miles west of the city home to around 1 million. The leopard is currently in critical condition.
