So I was trying out Traktor Scratch Pro on my computer, and I imported all of my music. After a few hours of playing with it, I fired up my media player, and realized that ALL of my music's artist metadata had been messed up. It's like Traktor had taken the song artists, and copied them into the album artist field, or something. Anyway, I am freaking out because I obsess over my metadata, and I have a pretty big library (5,400 songs, roughly). It'll take me forever to get my music back to the way it was!

Do you all know of anything I could do to get the proper metadata back? I've been using MusicBrainz Picard to fix some of it, but there is a lot of stuff that needs to be changed.

Try having a harddrive crash with 8,000 songs on it. Been trying to catch up on all that I've lost for 7 months.

a while back I was backing up my music files when I inadvertently deleted half my collection - 'tis was a sad day. nevertheless, you can change general information on mp3's such as album and artist name but for specifics that would need to be changed manually.

I either rip CDs, download them from the Zune Marketplace/Amazon, or...use other methods to obtain my music. Since I get my music from a few different sources, the genres and things don't match up a lot of the time, and a lot of the time the proper artist/composer/etc. information isn't included.

Have you tried a system restore?

I tried using Vista's Shadow Copy on my music folder to see if that would fix anything. It didn't, obviously. System Restore wouldn't touch music files, etc.
