The man is definitely something else.

Its a shame that the majority of the public know him as the guy who dates hollywood stars and sang "Your Body is a Wonderland." What they don't realize is that we have one of the current great guitar players of today.

And he's damn well transitioning into something else. The man is progressing with each album release and he's just simply getting better. The growth can be heard in his music.

Inside Wants Out, Room for Squares, Heavier Things, Try, and Continuum.

It's going to be exciting where he takes it from here.

He's definitely in the top echelon of guitar players nowadays. His song sound really simple, but are pretty complex. I don't like a whole lot of his music, but I respect the hell out of his abilities.

this sentence is full of truth

john mayer is one of the best guitar players still around.
he sounds so much like stevie ray vaughan when he plays its ridiculous. he obviously made pop music to get rich and is starting to incorporate the type of music he really wants to play in his albums, which is the blues

I would also have to say that this is also my favorite album of his. I loved the change of direction.

And seeing Gravity live is epic.

What's everyone's favorite song of Mayer?

Mine:
Covered in Rain
Comfortable
Victoria
Neon
Split Screen Sadness
Wheel
Gravity
Slow Dancing In A Burning Room

I love too many songs.

I've got a love-hate thing going on with John Mayer. He's legitimately one of the best blues guitarists of this generation, but most of what I hear from him doesn't reflect his talent. The vast majority of what he releases sounds like manufactured pop crap.

Try! was largely a disappointment for me. Don't get me wrong, their are some excellent songs on the album, but overall it wasn't consistently good. I was eagerly anticipating that album before it came out because that was around the time where I was most interested playing my guitar. Maybe I was just expecting the next Clapton or something.

The album was good, but not as good as I thought it could be. Maybe the next will be better.
