If the industry continues as it's been going, none of the previously mentioned cats will be next. All these guys are relatively established already. Most of the cats that become the "next big thing" come out of nowhere, or are totally manufactured by their respective labels/producers. It's extremely rare that an "underground" or indi cat blows.

LMAO @ the Ya Boy example. That was awful. He sounds like a fuckin local act who only gets play by people who are friends with him.

I'm going to say an absolutely NOT to that one.

I'd see the only person with the potential to crossover would be Wale.
Asher Roth - Meh. He strikes me as the type to have a breakout novelty song and we'd never hear from him again.

Thats true and untrue. The ones that usually come out of nowhere are the ones that come with dance songs and things like that. Underground cats do blow, but it doesnt happen that often which is why this is such a good debate.

As for Ya Boy, that guy is not going to appeal to a national audience. I dont see him ever doing that. His music sounds like the Bay, and is for the Bay.

I have to agree with this the most. Most of the names I've seen here I knew 2 or 3 years ago and they didn't blow and won't blow, they aren't doing anything special. If anyone has a chance it's Asher just for the white factor.

Forgot all about Young Chris, he is due for a hit single.

As much as I love the justus league (gotta represent raleigh and durham) all of those guys missed their mainstream window with the flop of mistrel show. 9th Wonder will continue to produce for the big names in hip-hop, but thats it.

I really dont see Tyga blowing up. He had a cosign from Lil Wayne, Guy from Fall Out BOy, and guy from Gym Class Heroes. He was featured on MTV, and a bunch of other shit. His single featured Lil Wayne but hardly made any noise. If he hardly sold any records for his first album after he had all that buzz, I dont see it happening on his second. You never know though.....

Young Chris is essentially in the same spot as elzhi (with less talent and more hype). Both have worked in mainstream groups that had some level of commercial success (chris with young guns and elzhi with slum village). Both have since showed their individual skills. Fact is, neither is any closer to blowing up now then they were before.

The cats from groups that have success on their own, are the ones that go solo when the group they're from still has buzz, not 5 years after the group has stopped being relevant like young chris. I mean...the fact that he's still known as "young chris" at 25 pretty much shows how long it's been since he meant something.

I think Max B and Murkman. Max B has the swagger to blow up and Murkman has really been doing it. Here is a clean freestyle he did that was featured on allhiphop.com

Drake, imo, will never blow up.

Though he has dope mixtapes and flow, I'm not sure how he'll break out.
