Great album. Great debut for Mr. Lamar.
I gotta give it a few more listens to determine if its an instant classic tho
The cinematic feeling throughout the album is one of my favorite features, along with awesome introspective & ride with, vibe with tracks, but what is making me hesitate is the (IMO) unnecessary throw-in tracks with big names. The Hit-Boy produced "freestyle" and the Drake feature didn't wow me and just didn't turn out well enough.
That being said, this album features bangers-galore & is a fantastic listen if you're ears have been beat to death by the G.O.O.D crew and need something more refreshing.

Yes I think it's definitely an instant classic...especially compared to all the other mainstream rap music.

@aspectconnor yeah the Drake feature was really not that great, Drake is really starting to show a lack of originality tbh...especially when he stands right next to Kendrick

October 19, 2012 @ 17:18:40
OD IS STILL BETTER THAN THIS
October 19, 2012 @ 17:38:01
id say it deff has a chance to become one. still not a single song i skip over. had this on replay for the last 2 days.
October 19, 2012 @ 21:37:42
It has potential. The only skippable track for me is poetic justice.Other than that, its a great album.
October 20, 2012 @ 02:09:30
lol ^^ the best song = only skippable track

I liked the concept of making it like a short film and adding all of those little skits at the end of each song, but I felt it got tedious at times. If he maybe added the skits in between songs, I think it could've been much easier to listen to, but that's just my opinion.

Besides that, Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe and Sing About Me were mad dope. smokeyface

deuces on that. both of those tracks are the best.

every song has such a deep meaning once you really listen to it. money trees has the best meaning ever specially for hypebeast

Yo money trees has become my favorite song on the album so far. The whole thing is so well put together.
October 20, 2012 @ 09:27:08
Wouldn't label it a classic. Yet. It's dope but give it some time to marinate....
