Okay So Myself, one of my bro's and a female friend of mine were discussing who is killing shit lyrically right now. I said nobody is fucking with Em, my boy claims J.Cole is beasting and she says B.O.B. I'm like lol this bitch.

Anyways we discuss it and we get to what we think is the BEST Hip Hop Song EVER LYRICALLY. I immediately say Renegade off top without thinking. She says Juicy by Biggie and my boy says I ain't No Joke by Eric B. & Rakim after thinking for a minute or two which is hard to disagree with.

So what does HB think is Hip Hop's greatest song?

Cliche as it may sound, Deck's verse made this song what it is..His agony, pain, and desire to be righteous translated into this track far more than any other hip hop song i have listened to. Which is a lot considering I listened to all da classix.. but yeah, cream by wu tang..and the beat just seems so solemn, provided with a hook that echoed a young '90s generation's voice.."CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME!"..best hip hop song ever for me

In my opinion, people are more drawn to subject matter of the song rather than how "Lyrically" great it is. Of course a song can have both, but if different people don't like the subject matter of the song, the song cant be considered the greatest lyrical song by everyone. Everyone has a different opinion. /endstupidthread

lol. em recorded renegade almost 15 years ago. now hes spitting stuff like "lift the whole liquor counter up cause im raising the bar" and "you keep treating me like a staircase, its time to fucking step" (where he adds the word "fucking" in "fucking step" in order to rhyme with "nothing left"). this level of lyricism is recognizable in a person who has just begun rapping. just saying. eminem now is nowhere as lyrical as he once was.

anyway, although i dont know much about hip hop, from what ive heard, id say the most lyrical song is d'evils or dead presidents I (like i said i dont know much about hip hop). lyricism to me is more about topics and themes than about clever punchlines and multisyllable rhymes. basically i think of rap as poetry.

andre's verse on international players anthem

honestly, hip hop is such a diverse genre with various artists focusing on the lows and highs of life and completely different topics (my list just went over life in the streets, dealing with the loss of a friend, marriage, and the rise and supposed fall of hip hop itself) that it's almost impossible to pick the greatest hip hop song of all time.

but if i were to pick my personal favorite, it would definitely be can i live. jay's my favorite rapper and i feel like that song (and d'evils) is a something he really put his entire heart and mind into, combining real life with fantasy and allowing any listener to really connect with what he's saying. my own father, a 53 year old white man who can't stand most hip hop because of various artists emphasizing on materialism and womanizing, absolutely loves it because of those reasons.
