btw: i didnt kno whether to put this thread in this section or the electronics section. i felt this was more appropriate.

well, i guess theres nothing "wrong" with them...they're just really overpriced because of hype and there are headphones that are just as good if not better for much cheaper.

Im guessing you will be primarily listening to hiphop. Go with the M50 or HFI580. You might want to get an amp. What is your source?

I was thinking about getting a pair of M50s as well, my concern was they are primarily professional studio headphones .. are they usable just for casual listening, like an Ipod?? I just haven't done much research on anything yet .. I have Beats by Dre, and I love them, but I know there's better quality shit out there!

Yep. Im sure most people use it for casual listening including myself. I have it hooked up to my DAC right now connected to my computer. I bring it with me to school sometimes too with my ipod to use at the library. The price has been rising though with the rise in demand. I bought them earlier this year for $100 shipped.

I personally rock with sennheiser 280s but that was b/c I was on a budget. Those M50's might be a good look though. Thinking about getting the Sennheiser 598's in a month or two.

The beats will have a bigger bass output but the midrange of the M50 is so much better.

Dope, thanks man! I'm definitely lookin into buying a pair. I use my beats for everything, recording/studio work/casually, but your right, the bass is almost too loud and it kinda fucks wit my work at times and drowns vocals. Plus I'm sick of seeing mad ppl with the same gear as me, so it's time for a change!

I think i can help. I own both the Dre Beats Studio's and some BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro's. I LOVE my DT 770's and they were $200. The Dre Beats are bass heavy but a little lower over all sound quality. I like Dre Beats but they aren't for people on a budget. You pay extra for status and looks. I produce Hip Hop music all week with my DT 770's.

Hello,

Bought the SONY V700 MDR-Z700 DJ Headphones about 8 years ago for $150 (cheaper now) for DJ'ing and studio work. Works great and the sound is spot on.

Thanks
