specifying top rappers ALIVE doesn't really narrow the pool that much. in a genre that's 30ish years old, not that many people have died when considering all the rappers that have put music out.

exactly, that just eliminates 2 rappers....out of hundreds who have had commercial success. one can still name some more, but there'll be more of a debate once our generation of artists have passed.

Quantity of the quality shouldn't be a requisite to actual consideration of skill..not that I think sweatshirt is top 5.
But mine in no particular order:
Jay Electronica, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Lupe Fiasco. I didn't even count DOOM, but he's interchangable with any of the aforementioned.
