The Weeknd (Official Thread)

Dec 29, 2011 @ 21:36
the weekend is the dream with singing lessons :/ imo.

qft

I fee like everyone who pumps this dude up like he is special has never listened to a dream album(which is probably true). Dream fathered that style. 1977 goes hard. That said, the weeknd is consistently putting out some good music. EoS is solid.

The dream talks about MDMA and cocaine in his music?

this is late as hell but it's the first time i'm seeing this

legit?

yeah i've never listened to the dream so i checked out a couple songs and dont see why the fuck people would bother comparing them. dumb as the comparison between frank ocean and the weeknd

The Weeknd is a good singer but that Nigga has no stage presence. I seen him live and there was absolutely no showmanship, he just stands there and sings. Aside from that, his music goes hard

Wouldn't be surprised if it was legit since Asap got signed after a mixtape and a couple videos.

i think he just nervous, the nigga was virtually an unkown human being and a massive undeground star in a matter of seconds

It's not about The Dream's lyrical content. The Dream did father the style Abel uses. Like how rappers have certain flows, Abel uses the same flow as Dream. But Abel's content > Dream's.

That's not his aim. Look at his whole persona. He wants to remain as secretive as possible. So him doing a show and stepping into the light is awkward. He's not gonna be up there putting on "good" show if it means dancing around on stage.
Jan 04, 2012 @ 16:46
stage presence is pretty good here

Jan 04, 2012 @ 21:44
he tweeted that he's gonna drop a physical house of balloons trilogy set this year. gotta get that shit

How can people hate the lyrics on HOB? If anything the lyrics have been dumbed down since HOB. I feel like on HOB it was love songs written from the perspective of a drug. The lyrics on Thursday and EOS are way less subliminal.

Listening to songs like Loft Music & the morning . I don't see how you can say he is lyrical genius either.

Two lyrically subpar songs doesn't make him any less of a lyrical genius.

I honestly don't think he wrote the morning. I heard the original version of the morning and it sounded like one of the people in his crew. Not him.

You're saying HoB wasn't a lyrical masterpiece?

I'm a huge weeknd fan but I will say that "get it in like pockets" could be some of the lamest shit i've ever heard

Yeah I'm too into this nigga... And I've never considered Abel to be anything above normal lyrically.

Abel isn't lyrical but how he covers the topic of drugs and girls is different. The way he describes those things are in a new perspective.

Initiation, The Fall, 2nd part of Gone, Heaven or Las Vegas are all good examples.

"House Of Balloons / Glass Table Girls"

Been on another level
Since you came
No more pain
Look into my eyes
You can't recognize my face
You're up and now
You can stay
You can stay
But you belong to me
You belong to me

If it hurts to breathe
Open the window
Hold my mind
What's the read
What you came for?

This is a happy house
We're happy here
In a happy house
Oh this is fun

These are angel eyes
Nights ends so much quicker than the days did
Same pose, are you ready for your day shift
This place will burn you up
But baby its okay and my niggas don't start
And they working on the tramp
So get on me if you want
So don't pin it on me
I didn't call your home
So don't blame it on me girl
Cause you wanted to have fun

If it hurts to breathe
Open the window
Hold my mind
What's the read
What you came for?

This is a happy house
We're happy here
In a happy house
Oh this is fun
Fun for me

Bring the seven on seven now

Two puffs for the lady who be down for that
Whatever, together
Bring your whole stash of the greatest
Trade it, roll it, dark
Offer, dark, taste it
Now watch us chase it
With a handful of pills
No chasers
John Legend on some super-sized papers
And she bad in a head band
Sleeping fan is a wonderland
And its half-past six
Weed's nice cause time don't exist
But when the stars shine back to the crib
Superstar lines back at the crib
And we can test out the tables
Got some bad new tables
All glass and its four feet wide
But it's a must to get us ten feet high
She give me sex in a handbag
I got her wetter than a wet nap
And no closed doors
So I listen to her moans echo
"I heard he do drugs now"
You heard wrong I been on them for a minute
We just never act a fool
That's just how we fuckin' livin
And when we act a fool
Its probably cause we mixed it
Yeah I'm always on that okey dokey
Them white boys know the deal
Ain't no fuckin phony
Big O know the deal
He the one who showed me
Watch me ride this fuckin beat
Like he fuckin told me
Is that your girl, what's her fuckin story?
She cut her bag but she ride it like a fuckin pony
I cut down on her man
Be her fuckin story
Yeah I'm talking 'bout you man
Get to know me
Ain't no offense though
I promise you
If you a real man dude you gon' side the truth
But I'm a nice dude with some nice dreams
And we could turn this to a nightmare; Elm Street

La la la la la la la la
I'm so gone so gone
Bring out the glass tables
With the seven on seven now

^ IMO was great lyrically, good post. to me hob was absolutely beyond his other songs, lyrically. not that any of his songs are extraordinary lyrically, but its definitely one of the better ones.
