OK,for those who don't fully understand the video,I'll help you out.
Basically, the beginning scene is showing the fall of Ethiopia's leader, Haile Selassie. He was assassinated in the 70's in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Then it shows the woman and man teleporting back into space, signifying that they had finished their job.
To my understanding they are the "Watchers",which could explain why the video takes place on the fictional planet "Ethio x"
When the song actually starts, you see how abel is going through his "breakup" with the unnamed woman. As it shows them separate from each other and become worlds apart litteraly,It signifies the revolt in Ethiopia.Haile Selassie was assassinated by his own people, which brings us back to the 2 characters in the very beginning of the video.
At the very end of the video, right before the scene with abel grabbing hold of the womans hand, the screen shows a close up of his face, which quickly changes into the face of Haile Selassie with a single tear in his eye.
In a sense, heartbreak was the cause of the revolt, and eventual assassination.
The romance between the two characters is actually secondary to the main symbolism, but I assume it was needed in order to fit the song, and for people to at least get a small grasp on whats going on the video.
Being a young man with mixed Ethiopian descent,I appreciate this video because of all the background symbolism, and the way it was shot. This shit is truly amazing.
