Macklemore

Dec 23, 2010 @ 15:05
I've noticed that in this forum, Macklemore, (the Seattle bred rapper) isn't getting any attention on hypebeast. Hypebeasts are supposed to be the people on top of the latest and freshest things in art culture. Seemingly, Macklemore is just that. Macklemore is a groundbreaking musician who incorporates all genres of music. Anyway, he is a great rapper who deserves to be heard. So check out his music.

I swear Seattle is hip hop right now.

he has a poetic flow.. real nice

EDIT: apparently his style is known as slam poetry
Dec 24, 2010 @ 02:17
he did not rhyme any bars at all in that town video
he's coo though
Dec 24, 2010 @ 02:43
^wtf?
Dec 24, 2010 @ 03:49
Yeah you could call it spoken word. Does it really matter if he spit bars or not? We don't all judge by how many bars he spits, this isn't 106 and Park haha. Good hip hop is good hip hop.

He's super "hip hop" like a bunch of popular artists in seattle

Macklemore's cool, but sorry, seattle is not running hip-hop. And to be honest, Blue Scholars are kinda wack, I used to like them alot when I was younger but Geo isn't a very good mc, and Saabzi's production has gotten kinda stale.

macklemore is my shit. i saw him live earlier this year. he's great live.
Dec 25, 2010 @ 21:07
I would imagine he's good live. If Seattle's not running hip hop who is? Seriously, I have no bias. I'm not from Seattle, I just think the quality of hip hop is amazing.
Dec 25, 2010 @ 21:17
What's the story behind that name?

His tape with Ryan Lewis was dope but the new one he put out a few weeks back was weak imo.

Idk, i don't like how uniform the sound and lyrical content is for a lot of artists coming out of seattle. I like macklemore alot but the majority of the stuff I hear from seattle ends up sounding pretty stale and rehashed.

I just emailed Macklemore, im gonna try to get him to be in my senior project. fingers crossed!

Funny how half the people dissing Seattle hip hop are probably from the NorthWest.
Dec 29, 2010 @ 01:20
not dissing, just saying. I never got into seattle hip hop as much as other people from around here.
Dec 29, 2010 @ 21:42
Not dissing you either man. But I do think it's funny how a lot of the people who love a cities hip hop scene are usually not from that city. I'm from Canada and right now I'm into Seattle's stuff. But I notice the same thing with Toronto. Toronto hip hop is great. Yet, a lot of people in Toronto don't even know who these artists are. So it's ironic how a lot of people diss their cities just by being apathetic. They're not even looking within their own cities for music.

Man I was listening to that song while writing an exam in Math, and I burst out laughing in a very quiet room. I just couldn't hold back.
