I'm no Common fanboy, but I have a LOT of respect for Common Sense.

Underrated? One of the top MC's ever? Post your thoughts.

With all these artist appreciation threads, I thought it was only right to make one for COMMON.

Underrated...No, Underappreciated yes...Top Mc well that depends on the category. IMO honest opinion he is nice with his wordplay and story telling. I prefer his older material over his new but that doesn't mean he doesn't have good stuff as well. However like all generations its a matter of taste and relevance. He's getting older so his material is changing and the younger gen either doesn't care for what he has to say nor understand the concept of the lyrics. To me his songs are often sometimes something you hear and then you go back and listen to it and say damn why the fuck did i pass this up, shits nice. Just speaking from personally experience when i was like 15 i kinda just passed on him but now that im 24 and i go back and listen to his shit im like damn nothin but classics...

One of the realest emcees in Hip Hop..The man is a poet IMO

This is a verse off a song from his Rawkus days with Kweli and Monch-The Truth

Let the truth be told from young souls that become old
From days spent in the jungle, where must one go
To find it, time is real, we can't rewind it
Out of everybody I met, who told the truth? Time did
We find kids speakin 'cause it's naturally in us
But the false prophets by tellin us we born sinners
Venders of hate, got me battlin my own mind state
At a divine rate, I ain't in this just to rhyme great
See the truth in the thighs of a stripper, the eyes of my

Common's definitely my favorite rapper. Seen him several times in concert and looking forward to "The Believer". I also hope he does more collabos with the Roots and does "The Standard" with Q-Tip.
