Do yourself and buy Mass Hysteria "Chicago Underworld" Volume 1 and 2.....feat songs from Mass Hysteria, Juice, Bump J. etc. Some exclsuves and some hot joints like Lupe's "Lupe the Killer". Production from Dug Infinite, Sc, Da Molemen, Dj Presyce and your's truly.

I didn't just find out about Lupe. Prime was telling me about Fiasco 2 years ago. He played me cuts about a year and a half ago. Like I said..I think Lupe is dope. But he's not on that innercity, gutta, secreat society level like when you hear Nas' "Theif's Theme", or Common's "Ressurection. Know what I mean?

BTW, here's Mass Hysteria's Myspace, enjoy.

I'm sorry but I'm not seeing what song you're trying to hip me to. But if you're trying to tell me that West side Chicago shit is the defining sound of Chicago you need to leave your house once in awhile. No I.D., Dug Infinite, Andy C, Gravity....not even going into all the underground artists like Molemen, All Natural, etc....All those dudes are and were the nationaly regonized faces of Chicago Hip Hop. And yeah, I didn't forget to mention Tongue Twista...but Twista was rhyming over Jazz beats with "Mr. Tongue Twista"...that's Ny homeboy. And sorry but NY dudes coming to Chicago helped define a lot of Chicago sound. The beatnuts were coming here in the early 90s to go digging with Dug and No I.D...they took aspects of their style and put a Chicago twist on it.

There's a difference between having a defining sound and a bunch of dudes mimmicking Spotknot mobsters...I like Traxsta..but No ID's work on Ressurection was more a defining moment for Chicago production and the Chicago sound nationaly then all of Twista's albums (and I like Adrenalin Rush).

And let's not get it twisted. I love West side Chicago shit. But it's only one aspect to this city.

there is no defining sound. but i know one thing.that shit sounds like new york.

twista is far from new york dude has a grill and talks kinda country.

i didn't hear anything chicago about it. it seems like they even totally replaced chicago slang with new york.

i'm not feelin them.

who do they sound like? they sound like mobb deep and a little like nas. i hear some twalib kwali too

You mess with Bump J and Sly Polaroid...but Mass Hysteria sounds like they're from NY.....but yet...you said they sound like Mobb Deep, Nas and Talib Kweli. What is even funnier is that the artist you mention have nothing in common sound wise other then being from NY. Come on. Mass Hysteria is from Hyde Park.

Bump J has always had an NY influence. And I shouldn't say "always had" cause that it would make it seem like Bump J has a long hip hop history in this city. Nope. I like some of his stuff.....but you're gonna tell me people hear "Move around" and it's somehow super chicago? Only thing Chicago defining about that song is Kanye's intro.

And Twista talking south? You started listening to Hip Hop this year? Twista has been talking the way he talks since 89 with No Peace Sign. And Twista is from the era where grills where an NY thing homeboy. It was a Slick Rick thang. Yeah, sure, the south made grills trendy again...but you gonna tell me Rza got a fang grill cause of Paul Wall? I didn't say look @ what Twista is doing now, it's what Twista was doing. And Twista was rapping over Jazz Loops...that's as NY as that Big Pun mural in the Bronx. It wasn't until Adrenalin Rush Twista and Traxsta took a different aproach..and even there he does it again with Scat Rap.

Before you try to tell me about what's Chicago and what's not you need to hip yourself to all the groups here. If we're gonna speak Southside we need to talk about Ill Nature (Gutta, Chaos,), Section 8 Kids (Sham God "Danny S") Andy C, SC (Ghost produced Havok's beat for Game on the Documentary), and Dug Infinite and No I.D.

p.s.

if you don't feel them it's all good. we all have different tastes. my debate is that what is the defining chicago sound..there is none. and it's damn sure isn't bump j.

have you even bought adrenanile rush lmao. new york my ass.move around is not a new york sound.in case you didn't know the chicago sound is a soulful melodic sound kinda like move around. and his other single pushaman.

And Twista was rapping over Jazz Loops<-------what this rap group does

Huh? That didn't even make sense. Kanye who did both Move Around and Pushaman did Gravity's first album. You're gonna tell me that Gravity is Ny? Let's take it a step deeper. Kanye was taught by No I.D. and Dug Infinite who build their style from the Beatnuts(after Can I borrow a dollar....the beatnuts influence can be felt on Ressurection)

Both those singles you mentioned...Pushaman and Move Around are done by Kanye..both those singles are sample bassed and basically 2 bar loops (pushaman has a switch). Those beats could of easily been ripped the same by Cam'ron or any of the people Kanye has consistantly given beats to in the past.

And if you want one defining sound to Chicago it would actually boil down to production. It would be that southside chopping style. No I.D. and Dug birthed it, Kanye and SC took it to different levels. Kanye ripped it with "I.Z.Z.O" which sounds like that classic southside chop style (the northside has it's own style..see the molemen..still hot but different). SC keeps pushing that envelope so much I don't know what to say. It's no winder why Just Blaze signed him as a producer.

And I don't get what you're trying to say about Twista and jazz loops. Listen to his first singles....it's not too hard. And like I said Adrenalin Rush had it also. And no, I never bought Adrenalin Rush since it never saw an originol release. I did buy the bootleg @ Gramaphone(originol location) when it dropped. Though when the Suicide single dropped i was on it.

And that's a wrap

just keep it @ you don't like em. the rest of the stuff you're talking about don't even make sense.

no hes not your an idiot....

manos I dunno how you could stand argueing with this kid....

in terms of mass hysteria I like their music however I do have to say to me it has always had a somewhat ny underground feeling but like you said they have alot of connections but they would easily have fit in with the likes of brooklyn academy or the arsonists mostly in terms of vocal sound and flow and a lil bit of sound construction. none of which there is anything wrong with.

and mr. c i highly doubt you represent anything jeff fort did or stood for so stfu and stop tryin to name drop

I def agree that mass hysteria has a ny influence, but it's not nas and talib. cause they don't sound like em. i just think they're influence by all the grimey 94 shit like Natural Elements. Which is what I think you mean and I would agree with.

tru, but you just put him the same breath as some of the greats. Thats not impressive for someone who hasn't drop an album yet...officially? lol. think about how many rappers suck compared how many are dope. the ratios gotta be at least 10:1.. Im happy cats like Lupe are getting on the radio, MTV and Bamboozled Entertainment Television(BET) its a promising sign for the futre of Hip Hop. Me personally i can appreciate any emcee that puts so much time and effort into his music......but maybe his shits not for everybody.

honestly like 1/3 of his tracks are major ill with it but there are some cuts that are wack. however, lupe does talk about things many rappers today don't and he focuses more on it wit creativity it aint about BS. to end on a real note id say lupe got serious potential to develop into somethin big. just as long as he dont gets caught up in the hype and so far he been maintainin doin his thing so i support lupe.

The other thing is that all Lupe is discussing really is morality. There's no history explained on any of the subjects he's going over. That's why his diamonds are forever remix was so good. What Lupe couldn't do in a full album Ras Kass did with Nature Of the Threat.

We all understand morality. And morality is subjective. I don't need someone to tell me "there's a lack of morality in music". The second time around it would be good to see Lupe go further into a line past "israeli occupation, islamic martydom". Naw mean?

I still play the album. And I'm gonna cop it on the 19th!
