some of it is ok though, but Drake, B.o.B, Lupe, CuDi, Charles Hamilton, and rappers like that are usually better.

I'd much rather listen to Clipse or Freddie Gibbs

more artists are coming together, opposed to the 90's and 00's where they were going at each other.

du is still a pop star more than anything. you're trying to tell me that B.o.B is a legitimate hip hop artist?

This.

Sometimes I think that competitive edge pushed the standards up. As soon as everyone became friends and was all up in everyone's videos people started chattin breeze on the tracks.

Economic theory - Competition = increased quality, no competition = laziness

but you could look at it both ways, competition was good for rap back then, but right now, chill music is slowly coming to the forefront, it depends on the music you're into.

competition is ill and all, but do you really want to listen to your favourite rapper making diss track after diss track.

music doesn't really get better, we just grow along with it.

i disagree.

then you're wrong. Hip-hop is the culture (breaking, DJing, graf, rapping). Rap is the music of hip-hop culture. You could make an argument that "hip-hop" is a sub-genre of rap music made with the original aspects of hip-hop culture as a deliberate influence but even by that definition that doesn't apply to B.O.B and Cudi

Hip-hop is rap with a hook. B.o.B is hip-hop. His 2 hits, nothin' on you us hip-hop, he raps in it, same with airplanes.

^ say what?

If anything I would say RAP, is HIP HOP with greater focus on the the HOOK and a more synthesized/produced beat and feel...

Hip hop as a music genre (not a culture) is more verse related with sampled beats

Yeah, he's rapping, but the song falls under the hip hop genre. Right?

it depends on if you consider rap, and hip-hop separate genres. if you do, i consider a millie rap, not hip-hop.

As a whole, hip hop music in 2010s is definitely working its way to finding a separation amongst 90's hip hop music. I'd like to say that the beginning of the new millennium it tried finding its own identity; similar to jazz music. The list for upcoming artists and producers are insurmountable: Wiz, Curren$y, Dom Kennedy, etc. Remix albums are beginning to emerge (cooking soul x don cannon x drake thank me later album). I haven't been upset with the type of quality hip hop music has been coming out with as of late. smile

I agree with this. It's like someone listening to some jazz or something and saying "that's not jazz that's trumpet/*insert other instrument*".
