This is one of those really, really asinine things that, for whatever reason, seems to continuously piss people off. Ever since 50 Cent made a Twitter for his dog "Oprah" as an insult to the real Oprah Winfrey last summer, people won't stop caring about it. This time, the topic was sparked back up by Conan when 50 stopped in for an interview, and some new insight as to why he chose to name his dog "Oprah" was revealed:
"At first I thought Oprah Winfrey didn't like hip-hop, so I didn't like her and I hadn't had a chance to meet her, so I felt it was wrong to hate someone that you hadn't had a chance to meet. So I bought the dog, so now I love Oprah. She listens to me and everything."
The whole hubbub started back in 2006 when 50 told the AP that he believed Oprah (the person, not the dog) held some kind of grudge against rappers due to her not inviting them to appear on her show:
"I think she caters to older white women. Oprah's audience is my audience's parents. So, I could care less about Oprah or her show."
Pretty stupid, because I don't think anyone would really expect Oprah to invite rappers onto her show, save for Jay-Z, Diddy, and other moguls, the company in which 50 now does belong. There isn't really much demographic interest in seeing Lil Wayne or Rick Ross popping in, I would think.
