Not complainin about Asians, but about the industry not being open to Asian cats. Or ANY mc's who aint black.


It has nothing to do with that, to be famous in this industry you need swagger and star power, something most Asian cats don't have. If it was all about lyrics then there would be a whole bunch of people in the game that aren't right now.

he asked an intelligent and legitimate question and yal respond to it by saying stuff like "there are tons of asian hip-hop dancers", and "just cause you dont know about any, doesnt mean they aren't there" and "jin and the teriyaki boys!" who are hardly considered relevant in hip-hop in this country anyway.

what he is asking is how come the cultural core of hip-hop does not seem to acknowledge asian artists. How come when people talk about classic albums and records, influential artists, and new and upcoming artists there seems to be no asian representation whatsover, even though Asians have shown a particular fondness to the culture and are active in it in many ways.

Asian Hip-Hop only seems to be acknowleged for the most part by other Asians. Jin had about 5 minutes of fame. Nobody was ever really checkin for the Teriyaki boys, and just about everyone else people mentioned, I would imagine very few people outside of the Asian community have heard of. I know I havent heard of any of them.

If anything, dude was showing support to the Asian Hip-Hop community by questioning their lack of acknowledgment by the hip-hops cultural core demographic, and yet yal are acting like hes trying to attack Asian hip-hop.

Nowhere in my post, did I say anything anywhere close to even suggesting that the rap game is racist. I was just explaining dudes question, I was not even making an attempt to answer it, cause I honestly don't know. You say it is lack of quality. Again, I wouldn't know. I'm also black, not that that means i cant think hip-hop is racist, but just know there would be no special interest in me suggesting that.

The fact remains when the vast majority of hip-hops fans discuss the canon of hip-hop or the important hip-hop albums, artists, and producers, Asians are largely excluded, however a handful of whites are included and hispanics, and even those crazy Jewish boys get acknowledgement but no Asians. Even though a large part of the Asian community seems to embrace hip-hop and express themselves using Hip-Hip culture.

yea, raps mainly for Blacks and Latinos (who are kinda black). The only white rapper to succeed is amazing. An Asian would have to be super amazing.

I wasn't mad bro, and to answer the question.....well, no Asians have dropped any albums considered classic to the hip hop community, thats why I guess. Maybe they should try harder to break into mainstream or step theyr lyrics/production up lol

I think the amount of south asian and east asian rappers in the industry will increase significantly within the next 20 years or so concerning the population and such. Just an opinion though.

but in all honesty, i know what you mean LOL...

IMO, i still think its a race issue (no im not racist).. hip hop is still "black" music.. i mean, even to this day, its still nearly impossible for a WHITE rapper to blow up.. I also feel like the asian stereotypes created in the US also hinder the asian community from blowing up in hip hop.. the general public just has the wrong perception, and it makes it harder for people to accept what they are talking about.. i dunno just my two cents

I think the reason you don't see a lot of Asian rappers in the mainstream here in North America, is because Asian hip-hop isn't really seen an something that's easily marketable. I'm sure in Hong Kong and Japan there are plenty of Asian rappers who are rich and famous. It's the same reason you don't see that many Asian actors over here except in kung-fu/action movies. Asian people, and frankly ethnic people in general, get pigeonholed when it comes to entertainment. Reasonably, an Asian rapper with a proper label push could be succesful here in NA, I don't see why not, but major labels want something thats easy to sell, which is why you will see garbage copycats of Lil Wayne, Drake and Gucci Mane on MTV before you see any of the myriad of talented Asian rappers out there, it's a shame

Pharrell is all black. This argument always comes up with him I dont even know why. Anyways, Hip Hop/Rap is just Black Culture. Asians aren't really accepted and if they play the part theyre seen as "acting black" if they're lyrical or underground you'll probably never hear of them
