Hey guys,

I know the forum's been getting hit a lot with spam lately.

I have implemented a mod which prevents newly registered users from posting links until they have 50 posts.

I cannot prevent them from posting but at least they won't be able to post links which might defer them to posting at all.

I'm sure that they could try post whoring until 50 posts but by that time, we should have caught them already.

Let me know if this solution works or not.

Thanks!

^ although i agree 50 maybe a little extreme, but at the same time we'd rather be safe than sorry... and plus as you said, no many spammers are willing to try and get to 50 posts just to post a few links, so HOPEFULLY this will deter them at least a little...

And another good thing is that Noobs who are using the market place won't be able to post their E-bay links razz

I have decreased the limit to 25 posts because I forgot that regular members might want to post images.

cool stuff, let me know the response of this.

i dont think we can stop spammers this way, at least they might be less motivated to spam their links. my theory is that if they can't link over, then they might not spam as much.

peace

he had one post out because i was sitting there refreshing his page until he would post the link.....
my point is that 25 is not a big deal to anyone who is not a bot.....
it slows them down for sure but i dont want people to think that they can relax =/

really? because then i would need to ban a slew of other people making similar short comments until they could post up an interview or link that doesnt break the rules.razz
there is nothing to give away what the posters agenda for their link post is only that they want to make one and are thus trying to get their post count up. with this system imo u gotta hang back......
unless yall dont care about the people who arnt breaking the spamming fakes rule. in that case sure il ban em all as soon as i see 5-7 "those are sick" "nice" comments strung together.
><><
im pretty sure mods do other things besides ban spammers and delete there threads....&)

Yeah that sawariya is definitely fishy. Even if he's not a spammer, he is post whoring which deserves a ban too.

well looks like the spam hasn't gone the way of the X.... yet.

By that I mean hxxp instead of http in the links. Doesn't register as a url but still gives people the address. All they have to do is replace the 'x's.

I could look into a solution where they can only post links after a certain amount of days. This way at least spammers that don't want to wait will give up.

that could work. Enforcing that and post count could deter the boards from being flooded with the stuff.
