To me, it depends on the type of shoes. If you have heat, I prefer to rotate those so I need a 7-10 pair rotation so I don't wear my nicer shit down. But I'm currently rotating between a pair of sperrys, converse stussys, black chucks, and vanilla ice blazers. Just depends on the rarity of the sneaker for me..

1 pair nice dress shoes

have a spare (for rotation) for each occasion and that should last you a long time.
depending on your lifestyle/age:
dress
sports
casual
work
outdoor (beach/hike/snow/rain)

i have 40+ pairs but I really only wear <8 pairs 90% of the time

Realistically need? Probably 3-4 pairs like any 'normal' human being. Unfortunately, I am like the many others here who are not 'normal' human beings and thus own a heck of a lot more than 3-4.

I'm still 15 years old so I'm still growing... which leads me to buy new shoes regularly. In the start of the year I was using 7.0 as size now I wear 8.5/9 so it's not evident to have many pairs xD Atm I have 6 which is pretty good, but I pretend to buy some nice Airmax and the vans birds.

at one point had over 100 pairs of kicks, i'm down to somewhere around 60ish, but its still my greatest regret as i'm trying desperately to sell of a chunk of my collection now. i'd love to have no more then 20. a couple pair of shoes for work to have variety, a couple pairs of boots and shitty weather shoes, 2 pairs of biking/exercising shoes, one or two really nice sneakers that i can dress up, and the rest would just be staple kicks like cons and vans.

I'd say just enough so that each time you wear them people don't recognise them before. As i'm still at school I only wear my sneakers on weekends. I have 3 Air Max 90's (inc HOA Infrared) 2 Am1s (inc Liberty collab first release) a pair of new balance, a pair of gazelles, a pair of pumas and a pair of camo janoskis

I've got about 30 pairs. Mostly Nikes.
TBH I only wear my White/Cement 3s, Black & White Pro SB Dunks and Oreo 4s.
I usually drop my Koston Lunar soles in whatever I'm rocking too for extra comfort and I'm straight
