The first one goes well with shorts, the other one is a high top which may look a little weird in my opinion. I'm not an avid fan of wearing high tops with shorts, looks a little weird. Jeans, on the other hand...

High or mid shoes worn with shorts are quite ugly. Go with the vans. Plus converse is really gay and cheap made imo.
